Default Re: Snap Server 520 drive swap question

Hot swapping drives will not give you a duplicate set, but a BROKEN array if in raid5. You will not beable to install the drives and have access to the data. If you are in raid1 you can remove the mirror drive, but still not a good option. You need to use NetVault or some other program to copy the data to another HD or backup media. Or use S2S software and backup to another snap.

Adaptec and apparently Overland do not sell the sleds by them self, you will be required to purchase the HD with sleds. So I would remove the sleds before doing any thing with the drives.

You could shut the server down and use a drive image program to duplicate the snaps drive. But the Snaps store HD info in flashram so swaping drives in may not work either. The only way this may work is to make sure you have SnapShots and AV disabled.

Which every method you choose you must test to make sure it works. I have seen many methods fail. So you MUST TEST it should be part of your Diaster Recovery procedure.
