You can upgrade the HD's I know for a fact that several have used 500gigs. At the time no one was making any thing larger in EIDE. If you search the threads you will find the procedure used.

V4.4.049 has 3 service packs available for it, free of charge. GOS v5 is available from Overland formerly Adaptec/ SnapAppliance for a $$$, It is mainly updates and fixes to support AD 2008, Vista, and OSX fixes + it adds Raid 6 & 10.

Hardware wise, Ram is a must. Min of 1T is recommended.
