Without the System led not doing any activity indicates that the HD may be MIA.

The GOS uses a std UNIX file system. So you can remove the HD and look at it with a unix OS.

I would have SpinRite look at the HD before doing anything. It will tell you if the HD is bad or has file corruption, which it may be able to fix. To run SpinRite you will need to transfer the HD to a PC (ALL Other HD removed) and boot off of the SpinRite CD. MS Windows has a tendency to screw any HD that is not one of its local HD's.
