Try using Putty and login as Admin, PW, then use the osshell (admin PW) to gain access to the root. From there your commands will work. Other wise you are not deep enough in the OS to execute those commands.

Normally the OS will run fsck on boot up. You just need to give enough time.

Have you looked in the log files to see what is going on. Or have you used the null modem cable to monitor the shell.
