Default Waterblock Noob needs help with design

Here is my idea The inlet is a 1/2"ID tube going over the center piece of copper. My Q is that I was thinking of drilling this out of a 2"x3"x1/2" piece of copper and drilling the channels a little less than 1/2" (7/16"?) how thin should the base be. Also how is my design? Any design advice would be appreciated but I would like any designs to be able to be made with a drill press. Thanks.
