SNAP35544: Replace HD?
I have an old SnapServer, which I believe is about 30gb. When I turn it on, the System light continueously blinks. No other lights come on, and the server doesn't come online. Since I can't bring it online, I have no idea what the software/firmware is. My question is, can I replace the HD with a larger one, and where can I get the files that need to be loaded. I'm trying to determine if it's worth trying to fix, and about how much it'll cost me. Thanks

Re: SNAP35544: Replace HD?
To help we should know the model number.
The Number of the snap (35544) doesn't help. This range I've never seen. (May be I've not seen everything..) Greetings from Schnappi |

Re: SNAP35544: Replace HD?
Unfortunately, I don't see any Model Number on it. It has the name Meridian, and the numbers 70700024-002 and 00-C0-B6-00-BA-DB, but that's it. And since it won't come online, I can't see it in the browser. Any suggestions? I know it's an old one, one of the first that I purchased. The first two I got were 16gb and 30gb, as I recall.

Is the a 1 HD or 2 HD unit. Does it have a name like Meridian, Quanitum ......
What you describe is a panic mode. Read the FAQ's thread. It will answer most of your questions.

Re: SNAP35544: Replace HD?
Can be model 1000 (1 Disk), model 2000 (2 Disks) or model 4000 (4 disks)
In any case a very very very very very very very slow maschine because of the 10Mbit/s lan-port. Do you realy like to invest money or work to get it run? Greetings from Germany |

Re: SNAP35544: Replace HD?
They are both 2 HD machines. As for investing money because they're slow machines, I guess that depends on how much money we're talking about vs what it would cost for a new NAS storage device.

Re: SNAP35544: Replace HD?
Use the FAQ's to figure out what models. The WIKI section has Snap Appliace section showing the models. If you can access the admin you probably have a unit that has OS in flash ram. If so it's as easy as replacing the failed HD.

JhrBanker:
I would subject if you have a camera to take a picture and post it here. Most of us know how the different models look like here. It's worth a try. bitor |

Re: SNAP35544: Replace HD?
Open it up, disconnect the HD and power the unit up. If you have access to the admin it's probably a 2000. If the case says meridian, on it it's probably a v1, Quantium v2. The v1 if I recall does not have fan on the cpu. These units are about 8" tall the HD sets vertical. If it's a black short squatty unit may be a 2200. Which these are pretty nice units, small and very quiet.
Speed of course are not very fast but are sufficient depending upon your usage. If your running a a GigE the GOS units are a better fit since most all have the gige ports.
