Hello
We have here an old Snap Server 1000. Some weeks ago an automated script on an another box in the network could not save files anymore on the Snap Server. I then accessed the snap server over the web panel and tried to reboot it. After that it never came back online. I also switched it off and on, and also made a complete reset of the Snap Server. The behaviour on plugin it into power is as follows: - System LED is on, without blinking - Disk LED is flashing irregularly (disk activity) and then stops after some seconds. - Net and Link LED are Off The LED on Hub port where the network cable from Snap Server is plugged in is also off. I don't know if the disk in the server is still OK. What I have noticed that when I look into the case from behind there is a green LED inside which blinks 10 times, then makes a short pause, and then blinks again 10 times etc. Is it possible to get it up again ? Or is it dead. Any ideas ? Many Thanks |

Try a different port and cable. Let it cool down over night, I had one that would work for 2 days the the nic would go MIA.
Sounds like you may have lost a nic port. If this is the case the data is still there, but you will need to transfer the HD to another 1X00. A 2X00 or even a 4000, 4100 can read the data but with those you will break the existing raids.

Sorry for the late response.
I tried your advise, let it cool down over night, used a different cable and port on the hub. Unfortunately it still didn't work. It seems the box can't be recovered anymore. But Thanks for your help anyway. |

If you read the FAQ's you will find out what is involved to replace the HD. Not difficult if you have an other one to get the boot track from. The LED pattern will tell you, too. If you get the 1x2 pattern waiting for IP, you have lost the HD.

Greetings:
As a last ditch effort, I would open (don't forget to pull out the black shutdown/start up button. If you don't do this you could break the case.) the snap and check the solder connections on the LAN RJ-45 female connected to the snap's mother board. If it is an old mother board, then the feet are visible and sometimes work loose/solder breaks. On mine, I basically had the same problem and re-soldered the feet and have had no problems with it. You can also slightly press down on the top snap's RJ-45 female connector on the motherboard and set a side the hard drive enough(or use a longer ribbon) were you can have it connected then boot up to see if you get your Link LAN light on. You can also verify that the snap's RJ-45 connector is or isn't working by using a straight though(crossover) LAN cable. Just connect one end to the snap and the other end to a PC. This is assuming you have a static IP address on the snap and you would configure a static ip on the pc you are connection with. I have a feeling it might be the solder connection on the snap's mother board is cracked or broken connection. example: Snap: 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 PC 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 bitor Last edited by bitor; 08-19-2008 at 12:10 PM. |

Direct connect requires a crossover cable.
