Default Snap 520 Stuck in Maintenance Mode

Hello,

Ok…I have sort of a situation here. Over the weekend something happened and our SNAP 520 will not load correctly. I can get it to boot up however it never fully loads because it goes into Maintenance Mode. I tried clicking “REBOOT” on the Maintenance Mode Screen hoping it would fix it but it didn’t.

I have powered it down twice but no luck. At one point I did get an amber light on Disk 2. But after one of the reboots it went away. Could this be a sign of a failed or failing hard drive?

Also, I did notice this at the bottom of the diagnostic page. I removed the cover but didnt see any lights on the fans and they were all running ok.

Qhwmon: Box Fan1b is slow (10975), try to kick start it.
Qhwmon: disable QM
Qhwmon: CPU Fan2b is slow (11065), try to kick start it.
Qhwmon: CPU Fan3b is slow (10975), try to kick start it.

I would try a OS Repair however I don’t have the CD the NAS came with. I have looked all over my office but no luck.

Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.

The only way to confirm that the fans are working is to open up and take a look. If your server room is cold, these a lot of time will run min. But on startup they should go full speed then cut back based on temp. Do not go buy the LED's, confirm that they are moving air. particularly the one on the CPU.

Normally during Maintenance mode you can restore from backup too if you do not have the GSU. But your recovery will likely require the GSU. If you purchased the server new contact Overaland and get a new copy of your GUS. If you have a service contract it will be free and intitle you to the latest version. Reinstalling the OS will not remove any data, that only happen on the clean install.

thanks for your reply. We purchased it new approx 2 years ago so it is out of the Software Support contract. Since I dont have the OS CD is there any way I can get a copy of it with out having to pay the outrageous Software Support contract prices?

Overland should be able to supply with a replacement copy of what came on the unit. My guess 2yrs ago was v4. You may have tp pay a small fee but not the $600+ USD for the current version. If you have users on Vista and OSX I would recommend the latest version though even though it does not fully support AD2008.
