Do you guys completly compress your springs on your block? Im getting 40c at idle. I would try to compress more but I'm afraid of cracking the core.

if you keep the block level, and keep equal pressure on each spring it's virtually impossible to damage the core, the only thing the core can do then is go straight through the back of the board, but then I've never seen that happen

lol... shims are good.. you can be sloppy and do stuff when you can barely see that you are so tired and still not break stuff

I have to agree. I don't care what others say. I have had many cpu's and I'm always testing my watercooling stuff. My blocks are on and off all the time. My blocks on, then off, then the maze go's on to check between the two. Back and forth like this all the time. I've cracked more than enough cpu's to know that if I'm a sissy I'm also not a sissy out 150$ bucks for my athlon xp. If it happens just once or twice it adds up. The shim is only 10-15$ or so and saves me much in the end.

I don't use springs at all, just steel bolts and winged nuts, and of course shim, I also take a lot of block on and off, and I don't wanna waste time being too careful

i've only taken my alpha pal8045 off once, so i don't feel that a shim is necessary for me..

No you are right the only reason I use the shims is because I do allot of changing around. And Brad can burn up his own cpu's, as for me the first 300-450$ that gets thrown out the door is enough. Fortunately this has not happened to me. I rma'd them but I did crush a few and decided not to take my chances.

I've heard horror stories about "copper shims" but I have one I used on all my heatsinks without a problem. Maybe I should put it on with my block and go to town on my springs
