I had some free time this weekend with my mill. The mill is rough shape. I tried making a new mini pin block but the effort was futile. So instead I dug out the Lumpy Channel base (the top got destroyed by USPS) and decided to make the R-Type 2 out of it. This time I designed a new top with a Center inlet with a jet.
This is a pic of the original base: ![]() Here is a pic of the modified base: ![]() As you can see I milled in the pins and removed a row of pins on both sides of the block. I felt those were mothing more than unnessary restrictions. Here is a pic of the new all copper top peice: ![]() And here is a pic with top in place: ![]() Next step is a trip to the hardware store for some copper connectors to solder on and some more screws. |

![]() Indeed on the base thickness. If I get back to the mill I want to make a second one with the previous R-Type specs with the same top as this one. I belive the center inlet with the nozzel should make up for base place thickness and maybe more. pH still has my original R-Type unless he got rid of it. Once he gets his revised bench up I got about 10lbs of copper to send his way. ![]() |

hehe, looks like that watercooling monkey on your back is calling again.
Have you thought of making the jet another piece, so as to be able to switch it out and custmize it better.

![]() Yes it crossed my mind and done it on the Project X block. The top is just 1/8" copper plate though. Be just as easy to make new tops with different jet designs. Setting up my test bench now. Hope the mobo still works. Got a Die Sim in the works but long way off on that. |

Looks good. Nice to see some work like this since I'm thinking about making my
own waterblock too. Agree about the pipe fittings though. Would have been nice to see a round "O ring" type channel for them to sit in. A small fly cutter might work well for that since you have a mill. If you plan it right you wouldn't see any solder at all. ![]() |

How are the pipes soldered? just flat against the top, or do they insert into the holes? It looks like they are just flat against it...
I wouldnt imagine that being very strong (but im very tempted to do it on my blocks as it would save a LOT of effort ![]() What solder do you use? standard 60/40 or lead-free solder? I could use either 60/40 or 95 Sn 4 Ag 0.5 Cu solder.. dunno which is stronger...?

It is PLENTY strong the way it is. In fact when pH sent back my blocks they got messed up by USPS. One of the copper barbs was cruched yet it still was solder in place. It will hold 50lbs easy. I use lead free copper/tin mix solder. |

My test bench has improved considerably since the last post. Anyway today I decided the see how much the center inlet with the jet helped the design. Was a little disapointed. It was interesting to learn the block is actually less restrictive WITH the jet and 2 outlets as opposed to an inlet on one side and an outlet on the other.
Edit for clarification: The No Jet reading has the inlet on one side (not in the middle) and the outlet on the other (not in the middle). The Jet reading has a jet in the middle (center inlet) and the outlets are on both sides. |
