Default FTP issues with SNAP 2200

This is an odd problem I have noticed with the SNAP 2200

I have the thing set for ftp access only. No anonymous connections allowed.

The file security is all setup correctly.

When I try to access the server through the link ftp://IPADDRESS, everything works fine. It prompts me for username and password.

However after awhile it will no longer allow connections this way. I requirers me to use ftp://USERNAME@IPADDRESS to access things. Now nothing changes on my end. No settings, nothing!!!

It suddenly sees ftp://IPADDRESS as an attempt at an anonymous connection (which it is) even though anon is not set and it will not prompt for username. Very odd because if I have the thing set to not all anonymous it should still prompt for username/password, which it does but over time it will revert back.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

thanks,

Does it ask for password here (above) ????????

Are you using default port (21) Passive or active mode???
Is this behind a firewall???
Does it have a Private or Public IP Address ?????
Is Java loaded for ssl ????
Do you have a DNS server running on your end ????
Which brower Firefox or IE

Answer re3dyb0y Question ......

After all this try clearing out all cache files and any cookies related to it. Browser will save a session cookie with ftp.

- yes it does ask for a password

- yes port 21

- active

- same thing behind and inside firewall

- happens on either end, public or private

- SNAP OS is 3.0.854

- no DNS server

- IE 6

NO FTP client, using IE's built in one.

OK, I guess you have a dual OS, 3.0.854 and 4.0.860

I use ftpfire client for firefox.

Send me your connection info if you want me to test, help diag.

I don't use IE, execpt for a few hardware devices which don't play well with FF. And that only on a private net, so I don't have security conserns.

Just like I will not Trust MS Security to correct there bugs in there software. If they fix the software we want need all of this crap.

No i just have a single OS, 3.0.854.

I just tried this. I enabled anonymous connection and rebooted. Then I removed it but did not reboot. So far just ftp://IPADDRESS works. I will wait awhile and see if it reverts back to asking for ftp://USERNAME@IPADDRESS

thanks blue!
