I can't seem to get the e-mail notification to work for my Snap 2000. Here's what I've tried:
1. Pinged my SMTP server's name (outgoing.verizon.net) to determine its IP address 2. Entered that address into the Failure Notification page 3. Checked the box saying "Send a test e-mail after saving settings" 4. Clicked OK This results in a message saying "Unable to send E-mail." I am guessing this is because my SMTP server requires authentication. Does this mean I can't use this feature, or is there a workaround? Thanks, Dave |

Generally the mail servers starts with "smtp"
And does your ISP require Auth ???

Yes, my ISP (Verizon) requires authorization. Does this mean I can't use the mail notification feature of the Snap with this mail account?

My comcast account requires auth as well, but my 4100 has no trouble sending an email. Are you trying to enter your mail server by FQDN or by IP address? I have mine entered by IP.

Auth works with both my 2000 (before burn out) and 2200 with comcast as my ISP.

I entered an IP address for the outgoing mail (SMTP) server for my ISP (Verizon). The form on the failure notification looks like it is asking for an IP address (4 boxes). I determined the IP address of my SMTP server by pinging the server name (outgoing.verizon.net) and using the IP that replied to that ping. Is there another way to find out the IP of the SMTP server?
What is FQDN? How would it work if your ISP requires verification? There is no place to enter a password for the mail account. Thanks, Dave |

Fullt Qualified Domain Name. My ISP requires verification as well, so I am not sure how it is working, but it is.

You determine the IP correctly, But Verizion may not be using port 25 which is the default.
Do they allow you to send email to the same sender. Try a different email. I send to a seperate email account that I have with my ISP. Jontz, did you know Comcast is now using port 587?

Most are SMTP
But for example, mines relay Its usually open/no authentiscation for SMTP (well, as long as you dont try to use a different ISP's SMTP servers), and just password for POP Or at least in the UK

I know of no way to change the port. But luckly mine still works with port 25. Since you smtp does not start with smtp, i'm wondering if they are running through a proxy?

Some routers have port forward mode, where you can set one port for the pc, and the rotuer will change it
So you could set it on outbound rule on the Snap, and send/change the port
