Default snap! server 1100 not found with snap assist

Hey Pro Coolers, wassup?

I am brand new to the scene and need some help. I have some old 1100's that my work has kicking around in the storage room and I am trying to salvage any of them for use on the network. We have two that do not show up in snap assist but the drives spin and all the lights come on. I am wondering if there is any hope for any of these. I have one that doesn't power up at all so I may have a drive I can use to see if I can get a boot track using the information regarding using Knoppix and dd if the HDD is still good.

Can I use Knoppix 5 or should I be using Knoppix 4?

I think I have a copy of both of them around for saving data from hard drives. I have pretty much every flavor of the latest linux releases kicking around as well.

Before I get started I want to know if there is a tutorial or a link someone can point me to to get going on trying to save some of these that appear to be working. I can web into one of them but it doesn't see the drive, so that one is probably my best bet on making at least one of these babies work.

Any advice or pointers before I embark upon this journey to save these old snaps?

The 1100 has the os on the HD, so if you have a bad HD it will not show up.

Either version of Knoppix will work including the live CD version of DD.

I have a log of the most common question in the FAQ's. And there is more info in the WIKI section of this site.

So if one of them can be accessed with the web interface, the OS is working on it? How do I make it so I can use the drive then? It's keeps saying that the drive is uninitialized and to please wait but it never does anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the other information, by the way.

Under the disk utility menu from the gui you can do the init there. If you have access and it's not doing working from the debug page enter "co de format 10000/reinit" should take care of it. Depending opon the drive size this can take a log time. If the disk led is solid it's working on it.

Now there are a few 1000's that have firmware in flashram. On these you have gui access with out HD's.

Sounds like it's working. If the disk led is on let it finish. It can take 8+ hr on large HD's.
