Default 705N Reading larger Hdd's?

Hi,

I've been reading all the threads so far and can't come up with a solution on
how I can get the the NAS to read 320 gb hdd's. there are just to many threads...

Server: Windows 2003 AD

my snap server details: Dell Powervault 705N

Model: 4000 Series
Software: 3.4.805 (US)
Hardware: 2.2.1
Bios: 2.4.437

Questions:

1) i've wiped 4 harddrives i've taken out of my PC and put them into this
snap server they are 320 gb each. They read as 120 gig only...

2) i've read on some threads that people have upgraded this model
to like 400 gb hdd's <-- this true?

3) what do I need to get these 320 gb hdd's to read the full space on them.

let me know, any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

The 705N is a rebranded Snap Server 4100

NO ONE HAS UPGRADED THIS UNIT PAST THE LBA-48BIT BARRIER

MAX HARD DRIVE SPACE IS 137GB

That answers your questions

As it is impossible

Full Stop

Other models, yes they have upgraded them

But not the 4100

It is a hardware limitation

Which server do you recommend to go over the 120 gig limit and use the 320 hdd's?

I'd reccomend the 4200 or 4500, The 4000 should be able to work but those are fairly old and might not power all the drive effectively.

If you're thinking about selling that 705N let me know. Ive been looking for one.

It all depends on what your requirments are.

If you are need all out speed, you need to move to the Guardian OS units. Most of those units have gigabit nic ports.

All of the Snap OS units have only a 100base ports.

For 2003 AD Suppore you will need to run Snap OS v4.0.860, or Guardian OS v3.2+. Or use the work around posted in the wiki section of the forum.

It would have to be one of the vapor systems. The rest would not take the load.

That would not be good.

He would BOIL over.

So, we need to build Phoenix a Phase Change setup, or at the very least get some good TEC's
