Default Another dead 2200 -Help?

Hey newbie here.

I have a seemingly dead 2200. I have searched these forums and not really found an answer.

My 2200 was disconnecting and then rebuilding itself. It did it a couple times over the last couple days. Finally it has failed to reboot or come back up.

Where I am at now is it has power. The system light is blinking a couple times a second, the link light is solid the net light is rapid blinking and the disk light only occasionally flashes. SNAP assist finds the box as un configured but will not let me configure it. It fails or says it is unavailable when trying to assign an IP.I had it set up to be a mirror. I tried swapping drives and the same thing. I also tried booting off of only each drive. I cannot connect to this via the admin or anyway at all. I did the rest too with no luck.

Is it possible that the boot sector on each drive is corrupted and corrupted each other?

Does this sound more like a dead HD controller?

Is there any way to verify that there is still a boot image on either disk or that it is OK.

How should I proceeds next. BTW I don't absolutely NEED my data as I have it all backed up on a separate drive.

Thanks

This is not my department and I have not messed with the 2x00 series SNAPs at all, so take this with a grain of salt.

Sounds to me like one or both of the hard disks were failing. It tried to recover, and fix itself, but over time could no longer do so and failed. The 2200 has the OS on the hard disk. If the disks fail, then so will the OS. Putting in a new hard disk now will not fix it because the new disk does not have the OS on it and the OS is not there now to prepare the new disk and put itself on the new disk.

Of course there are other things that could cause this, like a bad main board, a bad hd controller, a bad cable, a failing power supply, overheating, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc. But I suspect what I said above (my best guess).

If this was a Mirror, as it sounds like it was, maybe swapping the drives (master for slave and slave for master) will get the unit up and running and enough to replace a bad drive and get it running on that drive.

If I am way wrong here, just ignore me. Listen to what "blue68f100" has to say on this, not me.

IAJack, If the sys led is blinking rapidly, means it in panic mode. This happens if there is a HD failure, sometimes. Put the drives back in their original order, then reset it back to factory and see if the units boot.

The sys and disk led will flash a error sequence if it encouters a problem.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I have the drives back as they were and have done the "4 button push" reset. The unit then rebooted and is still flashing as above. I am going to let it sit a while to see. Is it possible that it could be rebuilding itself -Is there a recovery from Panic Mode?

Panic mode normally indicates a HW problem. If you did not have email notification setup, you may have lost 2 drives.

You may need to use assist to locate the 2200 after a reset.

Is the fan working???

I would allow the unit to cool off and see if it comes back up.

Assist sees the unit as unconfigured, but will not let me configure it. It says it cannot connect. The fan is running and all else seems OK. I left it running over the weekend to see if it would recover itself?

I have a feeling the data is there but I just cant get the unit to work. Is there a way to see if the data is there on another machine using Digital Dolly?

blue86f100 -do you offer recovery service?

There is no way to read a snap os hd except in another snap.

Contact douglas as frontline data recovery. I will see if I can find the phone number for you. Or find one of his post, he goes by the id Snap-tech. His phone number is posted on a few posts. He use to work for snap in their drive division. Since he is very familiar with these units and he is normaly 25-75% cheaper than the compitition. And he has been giving users from the forum some very very good deals. He knows me tell him I sent you.

Still looking for Douglas at Frontline Data Recovery. I have tried the number listed above for the last two days and it says it is being checked for errors (hows that for irony) and his website says under construction. I sent him an email and a PM from this site too.

If anyone has an alternative contact or info it would be appreciated.

Thanks
