Great forum for information on these devices. I'm considering buying one since they can be had for less then $100 regularly on ebay. I'm trying to solve a few problems in my head before plunking down the coin.
1. when i get one, i would be replacing the drives (if their not already missing) with 120gb's. can i just install the 4 hard drives and power it up and it will init the drives? 2. i have the 3.4.805 sup file, how do i load that if the device doesent have anything on the hard drive? 3. do the 4100's have the os loaded into rom (ive read they have 2 flash chips). 4. without any hard drives, can i still reset and restore to factory defaults and go into the web configuration with a limited os? 5. where can i find other management files, assist and the management utilities? thats the main part im confused on is how to get it up and going when i first get it. anyone wanna help a newb get the snap 101 lesson? ![]() |

1. 4100 have OS in flashram. Just install the 120's and it will do it's thing. Takes about 10 min before you will be able to access it. If help files are not there you will need to reload the OS.
2. No need to update the OS, LBA48bit is not supported here. 3. If you do a reset to factoy or clear network settings you will need assist if it does not go into DHCP mode. Assist can be had on request. 4. Assist is the only management files available for the snaps. It's only purpose in town is to loacate a snap with no IP address and do the initial setup. 5. You can access the 4100 with out ony drives, via the web interface.

If you can not locate the snap on your network (not dhcp), you may need to reset it back to factory settings. Instructions in the wiki section of this forum.

yes ive read the wiki very carefully about performing a reset and using the assist tool. once i get a 4100 i'll atleast be able to expariment with it insted of just reading about it.
this forum however once i get it will be my new home ![]() |

Sorry, you can't change the default FTP port that I am aware of...I have looked to a way to and don't see one.

So, I've reset according to the HowTo, it gets a DHCP lease, I can get to the log in screen, but none of the passwords work!
I would love to get this machine back on the network (snap 4100) |

1. Press and Hold the Reset button. 2. Turn on the Unit. 3. Both System and Disk LED should be flashing in unison. 4. Release the Reset button. 5. Press the Reset button 4 times. 6. The Disk LED should flash 4 times, then pause, then 4 times, pause, etc... 7. Press and Hold the Reset button. 8. When the System and Disk LED go off (and stay off), release the Reset button. The snap will now reboot and has been reset back to factory configuration. Use Assist to log into your SNAP Server. Assist is going to want to do an "initial setup" first. During this intitial setup, it will set the language support, the time date, server name, and administrator password. It IS case sensitive.... If you do not use Assist, you need to know the IP address it is assigned. It will ask you to choose language, then you can log on. The factory default for the username/password is "administrator" and the password is blank, not as in the word "blank", but as in void of any charachters. |
