Hello everyone,
I was just given a snap m4100. I put in 3 250gb hard drives. The os shows I have 128gb available on each drive. I have not configured it for Raid yet. I was reading that OS v4.0.860 would fix this. I tried to download the file from Adaptec but they won't let me download it cause it was too old. How would I go about getting a copy of it? I tried to see what version I have but I don't show anywhere where the current version is. This is my first time I have used the snap server so I appologize for asking stupid questions. Thanks so much! David |

I have looked at the faq. I was able to get the zip file from adaptec the SnapOS_4_0_860_upg.exe. I saw the .sup files but the Assist tool says it is not a valid sup file. The file is Snap_4_x.sup. But again the assist tells me it doesn't work. So I don't know what else to do at this point. I did find the version 3.1.608 and BIOS 2.4.437 of my snap server.
Thanks for your help. |

Hi davidruth,
Can I get a copy of the newer 4100 OS from you? I am trying to use the snap server that I have for NFS 3. However, the OS version on the one I have apparently only supports NFS2. :-( |

Sorry,
I do not distribute Copyrighted material. And it is against this site rules. Read the notice at the top of the thread from Adaptec.

Okay, I watched this train wreck long enough. #1 The 4100 does not support LBA48bit, thus it is limited to 137 GB per drive. #2 You read wrong or someone wrote wrong, OS 4.0.860 will not correct this limitation of the 4100. #3 You click on the SNAP icon in the far upper left of your browser to see what OS version (among other things) you have. #4 The OS download file that used to be available from Adaptec is an UPGRADE PATCH, it REQUIRES v4 OS already be installed to use it, it IS NOT a full OS. This file has recently become not available for download from Adaptec anymore. The file you can download now is the FULL version, but requires "entitlement" do download it. #5 The SNAP OS upgrades are NOT free upgrades from Adaptec and are copyright. #6 To get SNAP OS updates, you must have "entitlement". To get entitlement, you must be still under warranty, or you must purchase a maintenance package from Adaptec. For SNAP OS units, the minimum maintenance package is $200 last I checked. #7 Yes, there are places on the internet to aquire these OS updates, but they are illegal pirate copies none the less. Roll the dice, take your chances. That's up to you. #8 I am not going to provide you information where to aquire these illegal pirate copies, nor is anyone else on this forum going to be allowed to. Why? Because Adaptec does take this stuff seriously, as is their right, and they do pursue this matter, and have done so on this forum. If you had read the sticky message thread with the legal notice, you would have known this. #9 After the couple zillion times it seems David (blue68f100) and I have posted this information, I can't believe not one other person on this forum could bother to let you know this information after a month. (and people then wonder why David and I are not as active anymore) #10 After the couple zillion times it seems David (blue68f100) and I have posted this information, and a lot of it is in the FAQ also, I can't believe you had to ask these same questions again. Does anyone even both to search for an answer anymore? (and people then wonder why David and I are not as active anymore) That about cover it? David, have you got anything you would like to add to that? |

![]() ![]() Adaptec's position in the US is clear enough, and has been posted here many times. Adaptec's position in Europe is not necessarily the same. I contacted Adaptec's European Support with a SnapOS problem. No warranty, no contract. They wouldn't help fix the unit without 'entitlement', but they did send me a link from where I could download a 4.0.860 Full Install. The file I got - for free, because I asked - will upgrade a V3 installation to V4.0.860. It's legitimate, and it works. Now, it's quite possible that Adaptec have tightened up in Europe recently. It's also possible that with 350million people, Europe is a more important place than the US. ![]() Last edited by joebloggs99; 05-28-2007 at 01:32 AM. |

Since I do not live in europe, and this forum is not in europe, I don't much care what Adaptec's position is in europe. ![]() ![]() ![]() And sometimes I wish you morons who live with rectal cranial inversion, and no clue how far behind you are, and how anything worthwhile finds it's way to within our coastline, would realize how insignificant they are. But then maybe you're better off not knowing. Lastly, it is not wise to start a flame war with some who's military callsign, real life nickname, and computer handle is Phoenix. It's also not wise to start casting insults towards someone's national origin just because you do not agree with them, especially when that someone is a retired military veteran of that country. So I will spell it out for you. You have 3 choices. #1 Shut the **** up and crawl away with your tail between your legs. #2 Apologize for your insults towards my national origin and then speak your opinion without all the rhetoric towards to the US. #3 Continue on this path. In which case I will go forth with a full scale flame war with you to the point the administrators of this forum have to ban us both for the disruption. I am sick of assholes like you in countries we have supported, even with our blood, over and over taking pot shots at us, thus I take insults towards my country or countrymen very seriously, and nothing, and I do mean nothing, will stand in my way to back this up. The choice is yours. Ball is in your court. Make your next move carfully... |

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!!!! Sorry Phoenix. I would have told him if i would have been on the forum in the last month and seen this. I might have and just chose to ignore it. ![]() The search button and the Wiki should have been consulted first before posting. or at least skim the first few pages of threads. The "Will my 4100 support larger than 137gb drives?" question gets asked, and answered ALL the time here. Shane
