Hi Mitch, I do hope you have found or do find the required caddies, I wish I did have a source for you in order to help... Let us know how you go... The bigger issue is that we need to adjust the built up paranoia that leads normal every day IT guys to take a perfectly good snap server remove the front bezel, the drives attached to the trays then give this unit to some gooses who try to sell them on eBay minus the front bezel, drives and drive trays. I have no idea what possesses people in companies who take drives out of snaps thinking that their data leaking out into the big bad world will trigger another financial crisis or something just as dire... Right now locally we have a couple of snap servers missing bezels and HDD' s trays and asking for some, in my opinion; reasonably expensive prices for what are just parts systems... I can understand that it may be a problem for the good people at Defense or NASA for everyone else please please see if you can do this; __________________________________ If you are mega paranoid try Max's 16 point plan for removing all data from a snap server without removing the front bezel or even 1x HDD! 1. Delete the EXISTING array 2. Build another RAID 10 array 3. Copy your collection of porn to the new volume a couple of times, room permitting... 4. Then delete that array 5. Copy your collection of XBOX Games to the new volume a couple of times, room permitting... 10. Then delete that array 11. Build another RAID 0 array 12. Copy your collection of XBOX Games to the new volume a couple of times room permitting 13. Delete that array 14. Do a Full Fresh install of the OS over your now clean Snap server that will kill all data and reset the unit to default settings. 15. Build a new RAID 5 array 16. List it on eBay as a useful complete unit that someone can get someone value from... __________________________________ If you are just needing delete the data permanently try Max's 4 point plan for removing all data from a snap server without removing the front bezel or even 1x HDD! 1. It's a cost thing. IT persons are not normally mechanically incline. So it easier and faster to remove the HD w/sleds and have them destroyed vs taking the time to remove 4 screws. And since Overland sells HD w/sleds it not an issue with them. It takes less than 5 min to take on out of service but remove all HD. It will take hrs to erase and over write the data. And most have no idea on how hard & expensive the sleds are. Or value of one as a complete working unit vs junk.

Thanks Max8 And blu68f100,
No I havent found anywhere yet, I am still looking, checking regularly on ebay and online. Overland sell Hard Drive with sled and its quite expensive........ Its a good practice to leave the sled into the bay as its useless for them but for someone who would use the equipment would not have to struggle to get the simple bits........... ![]() |
