I have a Snap Server 2200 with 2 80GB drives. It stopped working a week and a half ago. When the problem was discovered the 2200 appeared to have just dropped off our network. The power LED was blinking steadily one blink at a time. No Link Net or Disk light. I powered down and then restarted the unit and got the same single blink. I also got a moment of disk activity and for a short time I got a steady double blink from the power LED. Nothing from the other LEDs. I've done the full reset but when the unit restarts I get the same pattern. Single blink, some disk LED activity, double blink from the power LED only and then the steady single blink from the power LED while the Link, Net and Disk LEDs stay off. When I run Assist it is unable to find and Snap devices. I've opened the unit and tried disconnecting first one drive and then the other and then switching drives. No change. What do I try next?
Thanks, Rick |

Check your port that's it connected to, router/switch and sometimes a cable. They do fail at times. But if you do not get a link light, indicating the server is connected to the network, it will not mount. If the port is good it's possiable that the nic port on the 2200 has failed. The system LED is suppose to blink once every second or 2 indicating a heartbeat. The NET will indicate network traffic.

I've moved the unit out of my server room and into my office and with a different network connection and I get the same behaviour, so I would assume the port on my switch is good. Anything else I can look for?
Thanks, Rick |

Sounds like a bad port on the 2200. The system led tells me the unit is booting other wise you would get what is know as a 1 x 2 led pattern. Check the wiki for what the led blink patterns mean. The awaiting for IP broadcase can in most case mean the OS is not found. This pattern is used at the factory to install the OS with the factory software. Since we do not have the factory software we had to go another way image file.

OK, so if the on-board NIC is dead I need to replace the MB. Are the MBs for the 2200 available? Where? Cost?
Thanks, Rick |

You will do better buying another 2200 off eBay. It will be cheaper. No parts from Adaptec.
I assume you need the data off of the drives. You could upgrade to a 4100 (hint I have 1 for sale) , it will read your 2200 drives. And allow you to move up to a 4 disk raid 5 redundency. But if you looking to move to Vista you will need to move to a Guardian OS unit.

No, I don't need the data off the drive. I have been planning to replace the 2200 for some time and just hadn't done it yet. This server just housed downloadable data for our clients and field workers and was just a copy of data elsewhere. What I would like to get is the file structure of the download directory. Not a big deal but it would save us some time. A cheap 2200 off eBay would be OK, but I don't think we want to upgrade to a 4100. Anyone have 2200 available cheap?
Thanks, RIck |
