Interchangeable Snap parts

Hey everyone - I have a 2200 2x80Gb server that has a failed PS and MB. I've changed the battery on the MB and used a known working PS but still nothing. I'm pretty sure that the drives are NOT damaged, but that is just an assumption at this point.

I have a couple of questions.

1-Are any of the main boards from different models interchangeable? I've contacted Northwestern and they have boards for the 2000, 4000 and 4100 series but nothing for the 2200.
2-Can the drives be put into a standard PC, boot from a live Linux type CD, mount the drives in read-only mode and copy the data off to some other media?

My goal is only to get the data from the drives. Once this is done I plan to retire the use of this device. I would be willing to a give the unit, drives included if anyone would allow me the use of a main board.

Thanks

Default Re: Interchangeable Snap parts

The 2200 and 1100 are the only Snaps that have the OS on the HD. All others are in flash ram.

The SnapOS file structure can ONLY BE READ BY A SNAP OS UNIT. NO LINUX OR WINDOWS. Fact, Windows will destroy the data if it trys to mount it, installed in a PC.

With yours units having the OS on the HD the flashram units can not be used.

If you contact Snap-tech Douglas he should be able to read the data off for you, for a small fee. He is in the HD recovery business. So by chance the HD are damage he can still help.

Re: Interchangeable Snap parts

Thanks for the reply but now I have are two additional questions.

1-Would you happen to have contact info on Douglas, email or phone?
2-So if I should find a MB from either the 1100 or 2200 series, either would work.

Thanks again!

You could probably buy a complete unit for what you find the MB for.

Use the search feature to find Snap-tech, It will be several days before I would find his numbers. It is here on the site, just search for him.
