Default RAID 5 on a 1000 ??

Has anyone ever connected 4 drives to a 1000? I have read here that people have done it with 2000s.

Looking inside, it does have 2 IDE connectors on the MB, unlike the 1100 I have which has no connector soldered to the second port. I think it puts out enough power to spin up 4 laptop drives. Not that 4x40GB would be very practical, but with bigger drives getting cheaper, a 500GB RAID 5 1000 isn't that far-fetched.

Maybe I've got WAY too much time on my hands

The second port is not ATA. It's marked something else. If you connect a drive to it will not start up.

And many have turned the 1000 into door stops, attempting to convert them in to 2 drives models.

Then, it should work on a 2000 or 2200, if I can get the physical mounting issues resolved. The 2200 is a much nicer looking box, i'll have to get my hands on one of those to play around with

On some models of the 2000, the mb was shared with the 4000 model. The 2200 is more like the 4100 execpt it does not have the LBA limit.
