Ok guys - my first post and I might not know what I'm talking/asking about so bear with me.
I have a couple of snapshots pending on my 410 that I can't figure out. The Manual says this is from one of two things; 1. "either an NDMP backup fails during the actual backup of data or 2. if no snapshot space is available when an NDMP backup is running it will leave a pending snapshot" At any rate - I do not have NDMP running for backups on this Snapserver 410. I have 142 Gig reserved ofr snapshots and only 36 Gig used. Snapshots are scheduled to expire in 30 days. Error log is attached below pertaining to these pending snapshots. Running Guardian OS 4.4.049 and 256 meg of ram. createSnapshot(): Aborting createSnapshot (freezeCheck -16) SNAP 04/02 8:14:29 PM createSnapshot(): Aborting createSnapshot (freezeCheck -16) SNAP 04/02 8:13:29 PM I createSnapshot(): /usr/sbin/xfs_freeze did not finish in 300 seconds SNAP 04/02 8:12:29 PM I createSnapshot(): '/usr/sbin/xfs_freeze -f /hd/vol_mnt0' failed. SNAP 04/02 8:12:29 PM I createSnapshot(): '/usr/sbin/xfs_freeze -f /hd/vol_mnt0' failed. SNAP 04/02 8:12:29 PM Any help would be appreciated. Tim |

I have never have any logs related to snapshots. One line of thought is maybe some file is in use (open) and it can not back them up. But snapshots are design for high useage. Do you have the AV running on your 410?

Yes I think you nailed it.
Earlier (but after I posted my original question to the group) I disabled the CA Antivirus that came with the 410, then I deleted the offending snapshot schedules and the problem SEEMS to have gone away. A new scheduled snapshot went off at 1pm and things seem to be back to normal. It would seem that the 256 meg of ram is not adequate to run snapshots of long duration and antivirus. I'm not too worried about the antivirus as this snapserver is pretty well surounded by protected machines and an anti-virus firewall (WebProtect). Thanks for your reply! tje |

The GuardianOS likes 1gig min with optium at 2gig. I have 1 gig in my 4500 and Andy (phonex32) determined the 2 gig with all of his HW testing. I would add the extra ram, you will notice a performance increase.
