Default New "old" problem

Thanks all for the fan help! Realized once I buttoned it back up the fan worked properly. < Duh!

Now. The reason I ended up with the 1100 in the first place. They thought it was fried. Would not power on. no lights. no nothing. I fooled with it for about a week. Different power supply, New battery, and an overall check of the connections. One afternoon I decide to give it another try. Powered on. So I find this place while searching for possible upgrades. I upgraded the 40 to a 300 gig drive. Still working great. For 2 weeks.

And then...

I cannot access it. Have to pull the power cord to get it to turn off. Now I am back to square one. Dead as a doornail. No power lights. Or lights of any kind for that matter. When I insert the power the fan still bumps. So I know I am getting power to the board. I have held the power button down for well over 10 seconds. Tried everything.

Anyone ever have this problem?

Either the PS is bad, or a bad system board. I've seen the nic port drop off line after 2-3 days. The only way to get it back was to power off and let every thing cool for a day. I've also seen bad solder connections on the PS jack and the fuse loops. They do go bad, the 1100 has been around for over 10 yrs now so there starting to get tired and fail.

Taking it to maintenance now. I am going to resolder the fuse loops, power, reset, and power jack. We will see what happens.

Thanks all

No go on contact cleaning and resolder. Same thing. Also tried a brand new power supply. From a maxtor 1 touch. 12 volt 3 amp.

Guess it is the board. Strange. Never seen one dead. start working and then stop again. my bet is that it will work again in a couple of days lol.

Thanks

It will work again if unpugged for several days. I had one like that. I think there is 1 chip that is flakey.....

I have been given 4x separate 1000/1100's and not one of them boots, 2 units were from my Co's interstate sales offices, they work for 3-5 years and just give up the ghost without warning.

As a comparison, the 3x 2200 & 1x 2000 I have were faulty due to a dead drives with the one exception of 1x 2200 that could not be resurrected.

Not sure what everyone else thinks but I look at both units and I believe that it could be lack of Air Flow through the 1000/1100 is the reason why they do not seem to get the same longevity as other snaps like the 2000, 2200, 4000 & 4100?

I just don't see how the 1000/1100 can manage to get the same amount of Airflow through itself as the 2000/2200 can.

If I did have a working 1000/1100 I would take it apart and drill a bunch of holes through the front end of it & stick (with that special Heat-transfer-Glue) a decent heat sync on each of the exposed chips.

Not expecting to see one anytime soon over the last few years I have seen 4x 2200's on our local ebay and only 1x 1100...
