FIRST OF ALL --- HOW DO I IDENTIFY WHAT HARDWARE/SOFTWARE/BIOS/FIRMWARE I HAVE?
I have an early MERIDIAN SNAP SERVER 2000 . I am sure it is all stock, factory software, bios, etc... Serial # is "29,xxx" I followed the tutorial here for adding bigger hard drives, but I ran into some trouble. When I took the factory 7.5 GB drives out, I replaced them with 2 x 20GB drives and it showed all 40 GB once I rebooted... So this was great, and then I got the storage bug -- so I swapped the Master 20 GB drive out and set a new 120 GB drive as master and installed it... Once it formatted it only showed 15.5 GB on the 120GB drive - the slave still shows the full 20 GB. WONDERING WHAT I DID WRONG. Was under the impression after reading through the threads here that I didn't need to update my Bios/Firmware if the drive wasn't larger than 137 GB? Thanks in advance!!! |

To get info click on the SnapAppliance logo from the admin page. A popup will give the BIOS, HW, SW and OS Versions
In raid the size is set by the smallest drive. Change the drive config back to JBOD. Then issue a format to the master drive "co de format 10000 /reinit" from debug. Will require a reboot for the cmd to be issued.

Okay call me a new.b -- How do I get in to DEBUG?
I did do a format from the software screen but it ended at 15GB also... Will DEBUG do any better??? Found out I already had the disks set to JBOD (each counts as a seperate drive...). Looks like that is the factory setting? |

Reformatted using your command, in debug, and when it finished it said 15,800mb same as before. Do you think I need a bios update? |

I think you have id mixed up. Issue "co de format 10010 /reinit" to format the other drive or remove it and see what is missing.
One other note on the older 2000 the largest drive needs to me in the master position (end of cable) and set as master. Toward front of case. You have a model 1, which does not support large disk (>137gig). You have the latest bios for your model.

It definitley formatted the proper drive. Disk 1 has nothing on it and Disk 2 has 3GB of data on it. Don't want to issue second debug command without checking back with you first as the other data is stuff I NEED!!!
The 120 GB drive is definitley set as MASTER and the 20 GB is set as Slave w/ Master present. Maybe I should copy all the data off the unit and onto my PC and then do a Hard Reset? |

Unplug the 20 gig then reformat the 120 again. Make sure you disconnect the ribbon cable to.
If that doesn't do it, it will require a OS upgrade to v3

Disconnect ribbon cable from the mobo or is it okay just unplug it from the disk drive?
By the way I really appreciate you helping me work through this! |

Okay second drive removed....
Command: co de format 10010 /reinit Invalid device id 10010 requested ------------ Command returned with console error 1 SO I DID THE FOLLOWING AGAIN! Command: co de format 10000 /reinit The requested operation will be executed after the next reboot. Look in log for progress... ------------ Command executed without error CURRENTLY FORMATTING WILL UPDATE WHEN DONE... IT IS TAKING LOOOOONGER TO FORMAT THOUGH... Disk
Status Total<MB> Free<MB> Files View log for disk Drive1. Drive1 - Single disk OK 15,800 15,800 2 IT STILL SAYS 15,800. I am going to pull the drive and throw it in a PC and see what the PC says... Then I am going to FDISK and kill the partition. DO I NEED TO SETUP A NEW PARTITION (Fat32 or NTFS?) BEFORE I THROW THE DRIVE BACK IN THE SNAP SERVER??? |

No need to do that if the drive is label. It may be a limit in v2 OS. I don't work much with it. Upgrade to v3.4.803 and your problems should go away.
