Default Who wants to troubleshoot this?

I'm outa ideas...
I just got a brand new AMD cert 300w psu. I got a brandnew Slot A motherboard (a smaller brand). I also have 160mb of PC133 RAM (32 + 128). I have a Matrox G400 and an ATi Rage 8mb: both AGP. Here's the deal. I put the RAM into the mobo and just booted the thing up w/ just the memory, CPU, mobo, and video card. I get no picture to the monitor. The CPU fan does spin though. There is no beep coming out of the PC speaker. I tested the RAM and video card in other computer and the processor has always worked. I'm kinda clueless and could use ANY help/suggestions you could give.

replace the mainboard, and that should do it, and dont go cheap on it. that sounds like my moms problem and we changed the PS and mobo and should work unless you toasted all componets like her

I just got a BRAND NEW mainboard... just took the shit outa the box. I seriously doubt that's the prob. Plus, the fan works.

my fan worked but it wouldnt post or beep.

lost all components and its the same as your problem, al you have to do is replace the board and see. only 2 things that really survived where the cpu and ram. love intel for that.

if you stick the cpu and ram in a dift mainboard and they post,

then there you go you have a dead mainboard.

brand new dont mean squat if it gets to much power or a surge from the PS

A brand-new mainboard does not necessarily mean a good mobo. I went through three mobos once before the store I was going to found out that the entire SHIPMENT they recieved was bad from the factory.

Hey Kev,

Did you try booting up with just 1 stick of RAM? Also try it in different slots.

when you start your mobo, listen to how many beeps there are, and how long they beep for. These are typically standard. Also, try swiping out video cards, and harddrives. I've had the same problems before, and they worked for me..

do you have a pci video card handy?

I'm not saying the agp is bad, but the motherboard maybe defaulted to PCI instead of AGP.

-just a thought.

also try reseating the cpu.

the MB doesn't have one of those stiff thermisters at the bottom of the socket does it? - if it does, maybe its slightly too high, preventing a good seat.

asus&amd, as I stated in my original post, there are no beeps coming out of the PC speaker.

resago, despite what it defaults to, if the default is not present, it always goes to the other. For example, if I have a mobo that is defaulted to AGP as most are outa the box, I can still put a PCI card in there w/out problem. Yes... I have tried reseating the CPU many times. And as I said in the first post, it is a SLOT motherboard, not socket so there would be no thermistor.

Did you use conductive Heatsink grease (Artic silver) on the CPU or anything else?
If so clean with Rubbing Alc, and Q-tips.

You could also look at the setting for power on the back of your Powersupply make sure it's at 115

You could try a new Power supply

You could try different slots for the RAM or only use one stick.

Look to see if your clear C-Mos Jumper is on the right setting.

You could clear the C-mos
If all else fails yank everything off the mobo but one GOOD stick of ram and the CPU boot with only that. Then Insert the Video card and boot with that and so on and so forth.

Hope one of them works, Good luck
