Hi,
I'm thinking about going w/c + TEC. So far I got WCing which includes: MCW462-U DD Z-Chipset block (poly top) (just bought, awaiting) MCW50-T Radiator with 4 x 120 @ 7v 1200 Quiet One Pump (296 GPH ) max head 6.1 and homemade BayRes everything is 3/8. now questions: I want to buy pelt kit for MCW462 with 226W peltier + 169W peltier with coldplate for Z-Chip (or 80W? and is it OK if the block has poly top?) + the MCW50-T i'm waiting for is coming with 80W pelt. I think that I'll definately need second power supply for TECs. But can I get regular PSU or do I need dedicated one? (like MEAN WELL S-320-12 - thinking about buying it). If I can use reg power supply which one should I get and which pelt connect to which PSU. My current PSU in my system is True Control 550W. If it's better to buy mean well, can I connect all three tec blocks to it? or is it better to break it between PSU's? Another question is how much power will all those 3 TECs draw? Will I see significat increase in electricity bill running 24/7 (for example)? Is the montioned Mean Well PSU loud? Do pelts produce any noise? (electricity "humming"). I'll have more questions coming. thank you Last edited by yaboc; 12-17-2003 at 08:43 AM. |

Hi yaboc:
If I were you I would use only two TECs, one for the CPU and the other one for the VGA. The CPU with a 226watts TEC is ok, and for the VGA 80 watts is enough. You could power the 80 watts TEC with the PSU of the PC, but the 226 watts TEC will have to be powered by a dedicated PSU like MeanWell S-320-12. No sound is detected from the TECs and the MeanWell has a fan wich is heat dependent to run. It's not noisy at all. Regarding the electricity bill it will be increased significantly if you leave the PC on 24/7. Greetings from too hot country Chile! Galeno |

thanks for info Galeno. however I already have chipset waterblock that, so I 'd like to use it. mobo i'm getting is NF7-S. I could use the stock HSF on North Bridge and use waterblock on Sout Bridge. But the thing is SB doesnt have mounting holes where NB does. and also i dont wanna run the z-chipset as reg waterblock with all the pelts in the system cuz i will be senting the hol stream of water to NB instead of cooling it, it'll be getting warmer. also how much of increase will be running it 24/7 (precentage) %20+? and if i decide to put the chipset with 162 pelt, is it ok to run 226 and 162 off the mean well S-320-12?
thank, more questions coming...soon |

Hi yaboc:
Well, I have the same mobo and it's a very good motherboard. Indeed the southbridge doesn't have mounting holes to place the waterblock over it. I would advise you to place the waterblock on the northbridge removing, of course, that HSF., that's what I did. The southbridge doesn't get warmed enough to be worry about. Regarding the increase in the electricity bill I am not able to tell you how much more would it be because I haven't had the PC on a 24/7 basis. But I think it would be significantly more than normal. You will not be able to run both TECs on one PSU (Meanwell PSU). Best Regards, Galeno |

Hi yaboc:
We have used silicone to seal the WB and it has worked well with some of them, but I have had some problems with two of my WB which after some time started to leak water. I would recommend you to use Fastix better. You can find some information in the following page: http://www.akapol.com.ar/i_p_fastix.htm Best regards, Galeno |

Yaboc:
You can forget about using the Swiftech MCX heatsink. It won't work. Swiftech have abandoned air-cooled peltiers because they don't work. Water is 20 x more effective at removing heat than air! The only way to cool the MCX with peltier would be to construct a hogh-velocity air-delivery system using air inlet/outlet tubes. A meanwell PSU is certainly capable of powering more than one TEC but you could also buy an Enermax and use it to power two TECs. The Enermax could be started automatically by an inexpensive ATX switcher (email for details). An 80W Tec will suffice for cooling the graphics and especially the chipset!! |

PS.
Don't use silicon rubber on any computer components (unless you don't mind invalidating your warranty?). Silicon is an excellent adhesive and you will destroy your components trying to remove it afterwards! You can smear dielectric grease over a circuitboard and then cover it with neoprene. |
