Peltier Noob In need Of Serious Help
Alright with my upcoming first water cooling setup i am thinking of going to pelt cooling in the near future, however i am having a problem and what to do. See im getting a new Antec 430w Power Supply and keeping my old Eagle 350w power supply. So Basically my plan is to run the 2 somehow together and connect the pelt on the 350w power supply. But i have freaking idea which rail to connect it to and also how exactly would the power supply work if it isn't connected to the mobo, would ihave to run them in syche like an article showed on this very site. Neway the stuff im getting are:
80w Peltier Jaron Cold Plate Copper 80mm x 50mm x 3mm. (Do i need one) But i am jsut wondering is this all i need or do i need more things before i can buy it all and set it up?

What are you trying to cool with an 80W TEC? I don't think it's going to get you where you want to go if you are gonna put it on a CPU.
As for what rail to put the pelt on you should look for the voltage it's designed to run at. Assuming it's a 12-15V pelt you should do ok running it on your PSU's +12v line. If it's an 18-24V pelt though you'll need another type of psu. In any case, you'll probably need to put a load on the 5V line as well so you are getting a true 12V to the peltier. Otherwise it'll run more like 11.5V Yes you'll want to get a cold plate with your peltier and choose a setup that allows you to really tighten down the peltier between your waterblock and the coldplate. Adequate TEC clamping pressure is an extremely important variable in peltier cooling. |

If you want to use two ATX power supplies then you can purchase an inexpensive ATX Starter device. It will control a 2nd ATX PSU whenever you switch your computer on.
An 80 Watt peltier is no good for CPU cooling. I have tutorials on my website and also offer free help/support to new peltier users. Just in case you don't know which wires are which on a Molex connector: The yellow is +12v. If you're going to wire a pelt via a molex plug then one plug isn't sufficient (for pelts above approx 14 amp consumption). You would need to add two plugs to the peltier device. Otherwise the molex plug will heat up and cause power-loss to the whole system as well as present a fire-hazard. Visit the new website at www.icetec-uk.com |
