Thanks for the links, just read part 1 and it's very clear to me and should be basic knowlegde for overclockers.

There's more chemists about than you'd think (I do environmental chemistry/synchrotron-based spectroscopy)

Luckily, but until now we've made too less noise about the impact of chemistry on cooling performance.

I'm an environmental chemist specialized in the behavior of pollutants (organic pollutants and heavy metals) in sediments and water (surface and groundwater), both in laboratory experiments and with (large scale) numeric models. I work from the laboratory down in scale; some interaction with field scale researchers as well though. Are you working at either Wageningen or Utrecht? I have friends from both universities and know some of the research groups at Wageningen reasonably well.

I've studied in Utrecht (geochemistry, now lead by Philippe Van Capellen) but work in Delft. Nice to know you actually know some Dutch institutes. We must have some common acquaintances.

I am familiar with some of van Capellen's work on silica (though not all; he has done a lot). A good friend from grad school came from Utrecht and I have met his advisors a few times: de Jong and van der Laan I think. I did my Ph.D at the University of Delaware and have been an assistant professor in Canada for about 2 years now. Still so much to learn about the chemistry of natural interfaces!

(BTW, I did link the first article).

The next step after this would be to run some long term corrosion tests.

I don't see the point of running some cooling performance tests, but that might be interesting.
