Default Insulation for the top of the chip

Hi,

I recently got a new xp 2600 mobile that I want to prep for my chiller. On my last chip I sprayed conformal coating on the top of the chip and this covered all of it excluding the die. I planned on using neoprene for this but could not get any that was thin enough to prevent the wb from sitting flush. What is the prefered method for insulating the top of the chip as I am hesitant to use the conformal coating method again? The conformal coating I used is like a spray paint. Most sites with info on insulation show a bottle of liquid instead.

I have read numerous site descriptions on how to do this but none were too clear as to the top of the chip. One other problem with neoprene that I had was I was worried about getting a good seal between the die and the neoprene. Or for that matter making sure the neoprene didn't squish out into the die area and shield it from the waterblock.

Thanks for the help.

Use a layer of dielectric grease

youre thinking too much. you dont put so much neoprine that its right against the die and is in danger of squishing out. you put it around the perimeter a little inwards. make sure to use dielectric grease liberally though.
