rocketmanx--amazing job on making a completely self-contained WC mini-pc, without sacrificing peripherals . Puts all of the 'shuttle' attempts to shame.

Thanks Arcturius
Yeah, seemed to me that a mod like water cooling was kinda easy if you just tthrow out all the periphs. But, what goods a box if you have no cdrom etc....

Rocketmanx- kinda ot here, but what kind of a drop in temps did you get between stock cooling (the factory heat-pipe cooler?) and your water cooled rig? I ask because i've considered building a shuttle system for my wife and was curious about how the stock cooler worked. awesome job there. totally agree with you about loosing components, i like having usable drives in my system. keep up the cool work.

This was my first mod ever, and was done quite some time ago, when no watercooling kits existed, and hardly any parts did either!
It is all custom built, including the waterblock (based on the tide-pool design - thats how retro this thing is!) it is an AMD Athlon 950 , can't even remember what it overclocked to! |

zog, sorry haven't been back to this thread for a while.
Thanks Uhh- well, I was getting around 31-33 idle and 38-40 with 2 F@H clients running HT'd on a 2.6C P4 @ stock speed with the water cooling. Without (watercooling)now I'm getting around 46C load. Would have been better but there was too much stuff taking up valuble air space. I had bought a Maxtor 3.5 series drive to get back some space under the HD cage but went back to stock config due to other issues such as not being a real smart design to travel with and still be able to use just the stock Shuttle bag. I would have had to take a bunch of water cooling stuff with me in case I had to work on it and I didn't want to carry an extra tool bag. (of course I have YET totake it anaywhere) If I buy another Reflexion this one wil most certainly go back to water cooled since I still have all the stuff as it came out of the machine. So no big deal to put back in.

I here what you are saying about it not being "as good" But to be fair and all.... these Cases have been "not as good" for what? 7 years now.... yip... mine has been with me (I have 2 of them) for a little longer than 6 years... And I can still get people to complement me on them..... Show me an 7 year old Antec or Lian-Li that can do that

here's my box
its kicking it w/ a 1700+thoroughbred B 1477mhz @ 2004mhz on a shuttle an35 ultra board, 1 gb of kingston valueram266@333 to match the processor, ti4200 with bigger homemade aluminum heatsink, Original Audigy card, 120gb Hitachi 8mb cache 180gxp(with only 6gbs LEFT) and a 45gb 5400 drive Dvd and cdrw opticals Watercooling stuff: Dtek tc-4, danner mag drive 3, sealed and all, cheapest core i could find-$16.88 fedco 2-150 8x6" i think, custom sweated male fittings for brass barbs, pvc res, with 1/2" fittings and tubing thru the system except for 3/4" to the pump intake. Temps: Currently 36*c Proc, 33*c ambient case. Low: 27 proc, 25 case within the past week A word to the wise-Don't seal your pvc res endcaps with epoxy because you didn't have the pvc welding cement on hand. Sorry for all the detail, but this is the first post of the comp since i made it close to 8 months ago. Thats 8 months of dust and a few dog hairs for good measure. Can you tell i'm just a little excited. |

Total DIY dirt cheap watercooling
I wanted to go wced but i didnt want to front any/little cash, so the pump is a pond pump purchased a few years ago and the rad is a heater core from a car I had a few years ago. I made the block out of a lump of copper and copper plumbing fittings soldered to a drilled out section, all the spigats (barbs) are 15mm copper tube and the tubing is vynal stuff from a DIY place. Musta all cost about £30 ($45) Mainly coz i bought the pump new a while back. There are two old papst fans running in seires (no noise what so ever) one each side of the rad. The rads going inside the case as soon as i can find room.
I get temps which make me happy considering the price of the system, I run my barton 2500 at 2.4ghz at 1.8v 36c idle 42c load. |
