Default PSU q's

Ive got a few q's following the psu article today:

1.\ Could you do the same thing with atx supplies?, so u could have one turn the other on?

2.\ could i directly connect both psu's to a single 3pin 'kettle' plugeg open one psu up and splice a second cable onto the back of the inletand run this cable up to the back of the second PSU and power the second psu from this lead?
think like for powering a pump from the psu by soldering it to the back of the mains inlet on the psu, in the Pro/Mini article

obvioulsy id double the rated fuse in the mains plug.

A bit confused here. Have used 2 ATX psu's before with success in a pc setup but had to tie the "power good" and "power on" to ground on one psu while using the other psu to power up the pc (athlonoc.com, o/c co.uk show how), the first psu powered the pelt. The article does not mention this requirement. Is this only necessary with ATX boxes? Also the above websites tie these signals to ground but I'm hearing that in truth they should be tied to +5v dc. Is this so? Anybody help me out here as 172 watt peltage is definitely a desire.
