Default Help Procooling!

I was wondering if anybody knew where to snag some motherboards, memory, and/or powersupplies on the _cheap_

Socket A, SDRAM, on board video, on board LAN

I am looking to get a bunch of AXP's folding for procooling and don't want to spend 100 per machine on mobo/memory/proc

Also, has anybody had any experience or know how to power multiple machines with a single powersupply as their being no such thing as a 'splitter' for the motherboard power connector.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and possible help procooling gain in ranks (as far as folding goes). Thanks in advance

eBay.

Actually, there is such a thing as a mobo connector splitter, but it's not a common item. I believe that Directron.com picked some up, from their merger. Easy to make though...

Are there any issues with running two machines in parallel on a switched PSU like that? I know it would cause, at a minimum, all machines on the PSU to be synced as far as on/off goes.

Any EEs in the house?
If this was feasible, I was going to help set these up in kind of a rack, and have one act as a PXEboot server.

I don't think there should be any issues, as long as the chosen power supply is powerful enough to power all of the hardware connected to it. And obviously, as was mentionned, you could make your own splitter by cannibalizing ATX power connectors from dead PSUs and doing some soldering.

Actually, the issue is going to be with the power load: it takes a hefty PSU to power more than one mobo, especially if it's crunching.

So...

http://www.procooling.com/articles/h...ween_psu_s.php

Which I adapted to make a redundant PSU array (still under construction, linked in my sig).

A more sane person than me would simply use cheap small PSUs for each mobo. More sanely, you can have one very large power supply for each voltage rail (+12, +5, +3.3, -5 and -12), but the bunch of smaller PSUs is still going to come out cheaper.

Sane? Who's sane? They don't belong here. ;p
We're actually trying to get away with sharing one of those cheap supplies between 2-3 machines. We're obviously not going to be running bleeding edge hardware or very much memory, or any drives (except on the server), so power requirements will be pretty low, and predominantly on the 5V rail.

The ECS K7S5A seems to be a good choice for your plans.
