Default Anyone have pictures of a Fedco 2-342 mounted with a small case? (No space above PS)

I have a Chenming 301KEG and as you can see it's runty. There's no space for the 2-342 under the HD bay, and I don't want to remove it. There's also no space inside the case above the PS. I'd like to be able to use my PCI slots so no laying the heatercore on the bottom. The only thing that I can think of is just to mount in on top of the case and drill two holes for the tubes.

Anyone got any ideas/pictures?

Much appreciated...

It looks as though the HDD/floppy cage is lined up with the left edge of the optical-drive cage (?)
Does this give you room in the front right hand side of the case? You could build a sloped shroud and so use a single fan or impeller at the bottom (below the HDD cage, so there'd be more room there).
Also, if the 2-342 doesn't fit (9.5x6.125x2 single pass front outlets) you might try the 2-149 (7.75x6.125x2 single pass front outlets) or the 2-208 (7.75x6.125x2 single pass front+side outlets). A side outlet might be more appropriate for tight quarters like that.
Looks like an interesting challenge - please let us know where you end up putting it.
Bob
PS: If you're stuck even with 7.75x6.125 but really want single pass you might try the 2-610 (6.25x5.5x1.34 single pass top+bottom outlets).

If you get the bonneville heatercore you can squeeze it between the drive bays and it readily fits 2 120mm fans. I have some pics somewhere, but I forgot where.

The problem with all the heatercores that I've seen is that they are all 6.125 inches wide, which is too wide to fit in the front right hand side because the space there is only 6 inches, which means it would be touching the motherboard. If only they made heatercores that were 4.5 inches wide so that there would fit a 120mm perfectly.

The bonneville's width is the same as the 2-342, and I've tried squeezing it into the drive bays. No go because the drive bays are too narrow (5.75 inches because my case has rails inside the bays for the drives to slide on.)

My PSU is too deep to fit a double heatercore in the top of my chieftec case.

No way; all sorts of sizes are out there.

In particular, there are 2 Bonneville cores. You must have 2-199, which is 9.5 x 6.125". The one that fits in a 5.25" bay is 2-302 at 10.75 x 5.625".

I was thinking about the radbox.... but
#1: The un-radboxed portion would be either sticking in the way of the PS exhaust or sticking in the way of the PCI/AGP slots.
#2: Scared about the flimsiness of holding up a full 2X120mm heatercore with only one radbox (what if something hit it? It does stick out for like 5 inches.)

"The one that fits in a 5.25" bay is 2-302 at 10.75 x 5.625"
No!!!!!!!!!!!! I already painted and made a shroud for my 2-342..... dammit.

Actually I don't think a skinnier heatercore would work either. If I tried mounting it in the bay one of the ends would stick out of the front. There's only 8 inches between the back of my PS and the front of the case.

Default If it don't fit; you must aquit.....

If it won't fit inside, or you don't want to cut the top, mount it on the side panels. Front or back , not much difference. Most folks have experience cutting the panels for windows, just plan it out. The steel panels provide good support for fans and radiator, just use enough tubing length to allow opening the door. Fans with light should make a good show through the rad.

Looks like that rear grill is for a 120mm fan. Just cut out the grill mount the fan on the inside and a smallish size heatercore on the outside, drill two hole to fit the hose through and you are done otherwise buy a new case.
