Default interesting similarity of storm and cyclone blocks

http://www.silverprop.com/sp/cooling.asp

in particular, the cyclone2 looks like a CLONE of the storm block. And both are made in Australia!

I wonder how the insides and performance compare. Anyone know?

To my knowledge, no one has seen the inside of the Storm block yet. Besides Cathar himself...and maybe some machinists.

I'd bet a hefty sum of money the Storm looks nothing like that internally.

I'd make that bet too.

... the cyclone is old. So technically, the Storm is a "CLONE" of the Cyclone block.

Anyway, its totally not a clone. Look at the rightangle edges, look at the barb placement, look at the size, look at the construction.

Its almost like you saw brass, and a copper base and went "I MUST TELL THE WORLD!"

Heres some news - many, many blocks look like that.

No, I see a distinct resemblance too. Besides Silverprop mimicking the meteorological reference in the name of the Storm, the externals are very similar as well. I think they are trying to snare the noob market, who only has a vague idea of what the Storm is. They go to a cooling webstore, think "Oh, I wonder if they have that one new uber block everyone on the web is chatting about... what's it called? Monsoon? Tempest? Typhoon? Oh, there it is, Cyclone! Yeah, the one with the 2 barbs and brass and copper base!"

Who wouldn't be confused? Take a look at these 4 waterblocks, and tell me which two look nearly identical:

1 2 3 4

My case rests.

4 is the MCW600x with the optional yellow anodized top?

Actually, bwana brings up an interesting point.
If you were going to make a going business around the Storm it might be worth thinking of ways to externally differentiate this one from other blocks.
IMHO Swiftech caught on early with their blue tops.
I understand that you're just recouping your own development costs, and not what you're trying to do - but, if I was your marketing guy (I'm not a marketer and don't play one on TV) I'd be pushing for something similar. Maybe red delrin. Maybe all the hold down brackets, etc in red - maybe externals in some other color - the idea is to be visually distinctive - in a way that shows once the block is mounted. Let the fan boys at lan parties do your PR.
I'm not talking about "bling" exactly - just differentiation - and, given the way that demand seems to exceed your production it's a total "don't care" ...

other than the cyclone, I can't think of that any blocks that share the storm's almost wholly black exterior- honestly, its distinctive to me
