I finally got my BI extreme from Chip today but had a few ?'s. First off, the is nothing on the rad that shows a part number or name of the product. It is a chrome shell with holes for 120mm mounting. Second, some of the fins are rusty looking, as if they have been used before. It almost reminds me of a cheap heater core from an autoparts store. Anyone else get their's yet because I feel like I paid $90 for a used heater core.

wow that doesn't sound like how I imagined receiving a Black Ice Extreme would be at all.

I think you can get it off. I suppose the rad is made out of copper. The CLR stuff should do the job. I personnally find those rad to be a rip off. I can just go to an autopart store and get a heater core for about 1/4 the price of the Black Ice. I guess unless you plain to showoff your case a lot, I don't think it worth the money.

Does anyone have the original Black Ice? And if so, does it say Black Ice anywher on the rad or have a part # anywhere stamped on it?

Could you take some pics of it??
you say its a chrome shell ( nickle plated) there should be no chrome visible through the Nickle. if there is, its cause the plating process was not working right, or something. if you see something reddish, its not rust, its copper. and no, the Black Ice didnt have a stamp on it that I can remember. it did have a lil green sticker. check the radiator roundup in the Reviews section of the site to see a pic of the lil sticker on the Black Ice 1 ( edit: Here is the image - http://www.procooling.com/reviews/as...e-rru1-BI5.jpg ) [ 12-26-2001: Message edited by: Joe ]

I just got my black ice extreme. I don't know what you expected. But I think I got pretty much what I asked for. Plus the bonus of nickel or chrome plating. I'll take some pics and post them tomorrow Joe. 1/2 inch fittings are also plated. The radiator I received looks just like the picture. I bought it because of its size and performance specs. I could of spent less and got a cooler core from Dtek sure. But this is what I personally wanted. If you really don't want it Shelly I'm sure there are some peeps willing to buy it from you

Oh other thing. I had requested an ETA from chip earlier this month and he held true to his word. He shipped it as soon as they came in. He also did say it would be close to the 20th.

Don't get me wrong, I like the size and look of the coated rad. I just was a little curious when I didn't see any stamping or stickers saying Black Ice on the entire thing. Each side does have holes predrilled for a 120mm fan. Thx guys

I found out that Chip tests them prior to shipping, so that explains the marks. Mine looks the same. That makes me feel much better. Thx for the pics

Chip's testing method's missed the obvious problems in each of the two radiators I received from Overclock-Watercool.com just before Christmas:
(1) Blackice eXtreme - with an obvious HOLE in the back corner of one of the hose-barb header tanks. Anyone could have found that in a second by simply blowing into one hose barb while holding a thumb over the other barb... it whistles! and (1) Blackice-II - which appears to be partially obstructed with lots of backpressure and very low flow rate. A flow rate test with an Eheim 1250 pump took 158 seconds to fill a measured gallon container... something less than 0.4 gallons per minute through the unit I received. The flow rate I observed with this unit was so much less than my older (original) Blackice, (see the system in my signature), that I am convinced it is blocked somehow. Again, simply blowing air through the unit would have detected that something was amiss. Both units are on their way back to Chip for replacement, hopefully the replacements will be in better shape. I will update this thread when I can.

KRP, i think the flow rate of your BI2 is less than the original one because it is essentially teh same design, just twice as long right? so twice as much flow restriction, so less flow. that is how i think it is.
also, hey, did you guys pay extra for that nickel plate on the BIXtreme? that looks sharp. but i will not order from Chip. i will get it from one of the resellers. too many ordeals out there for me to trust Chip (which seems like a good guy/bad business man. |

I think the nickel plating was a bonus from HWLabs for people who pre-ordered from OCWC because the release of the BI-X was delayed because of some mfg issues. Unfortunately, mine are just black, no nickel
