Default Correct way to mount pump?

Assuming that it is external and not submersed, what is the best way to mount a water pump?

I have a Eheim 1250 and currently I have it mounted to a board using rubber grommets on top and bottom of the bolts. This works pretty good but there is still a buzzing coming from it. I noticed that when I put my hand on it the buzzing dies to a whisper.
Perhaps I should mount it using stiff foam on two sides? But I want to be careful in mounting it so it can still dissipate any heat. But I know it can be a lot quieter than it is. What is the correct way? What do you do?

my pump is mounted inside my chassis on the floor using 3 bolts (no room for 4th) and 2 grommets stacked on eachother at the four corners of the mounting plate. works great for me; no noise at all. foam, on the other hand, did not work for me. it eventually compressed which led to more vibrations and a louder hum.

I use these:

Effectively two screws with heads suspended in rubber, not touching.

EDIT: Transparent gif it would appear! http://store.over-clock.com/img-typea.gif << click for white background version!

I bought an aluminium box to house my two AQX 50Zs.

I also bought some 1" thick foam to cover the insides of the box.

This should be completely silent.

I'll post pics of the system when it's complete - should be cool! (And quiet).

I have 2 of the same pumps MCP600s,
can you post picts of the box you are using?
I'm just curious... my pumps are a little bit to loud..
not the loudest components of my systems but still loud enough to hear them...

It's a maplin part

LH42

I drilled a hole in the top and one in the back for the hoses.

They fit perfectly with the 1" foam lining inside

I found they get warm, but the heat can get dumped into the water for all I care.

I might stick a thermometer in the box with them and see if it's a problem.

Just a note:
I started this thread because my Eheim 1250 had a definite rattling noise. I noticed everytime I put my hand on top of it and pressed lightly the noise stopped. I figured the whole thing was rattling. Upon closer inspection today I found that if I just touched the front silver looking piece the noise stopped. The problem was just the front silver piece that snaps-on was rattling as the pump vibrated slightly. It made a heck of a racket considering how quiet it is now. What I did was just stuff some tissue paper underneath the silver front silver piece (cap for the intake nozzle) and the rattling stopped altogether.
So, besides rubber gromment on the feet you might want to add a simple piece of foam or something underneath the front silver snap-on cap. Then, be amazed at how quiet it sounds!

Or just remove it altogether. It's only purpose is to hold the blue foam filter for when the pump is running submerged. When the pump is used inline it's completely surplus to requirements.
