Sweet Joe, this was a 24-way 32GB S80 in a bigass rack, didn't see it much it was in the 200ft by 200ft comp room which you needed special access to get into. One hell of a lot of machines there

*drool* I would love to have one of those, or the sunfire systems sun is putting together. THe biggest machine I have ever got to play with is a HP visual workstation with 2 500 risc processors and a gig of ram. It was slick.

I wish you had told me that 4 years ago. One huge horror story, but funny in a comedy of errors type way.

Nice thinking

Too bad Intel bought the Alpha tech, otherwise we'd have some Alpha EV8 acction, but now it'll never see the light of day

Compaq retained a greater portion of DEC than anyone, I thought Intel couldnt own the Alpha processor technology due to FTC worries. Thats why the Alpha portion of DEC was spun off into Alpha Processor Inc ( API) which was backed by Samnsung, IBM, Fujitsu, and a few other companies.

Really? Wow, that's new to me. I thought that Intel swallowed Alpha whole.

As far as other CPUs, a P4 Xeon (Prestonia) system wouldn't be too bad. It would have hyper threading, so it would be similar to 2 CPUs = 4 CPUs.

I think I will stick to my ppc stuff in the rs/6000's I actually have access to those. I would love a set of MIPS processors though. I run one in my indigo2 and my o2. I would love to get them inside of a origin 3000 *drool*

Oc to 3.5 GHz? I read one article where cone crazy sweeds put a liquid nitrogin filled copper pot on top of their 1.6 GHz P4, and got it to 3.6, but that was liquid nitrogin!! Cold, cold, COLD!!

I like Anything Intel, AMD is cool, but all, but (almost) all the pro computer people use Intel! Now, I don't want to turn this into a flame thread (please, I've already done too many ), but I like pentium (never had any other, except a wimpy 200 AMD that stinks, I am working on turning it into a linux workstation ).

I've had a 2.4 up to 3.2, just by changing the fsb to 133. It was using stock aircooling ( the intel cooler is a bit bigger than the ones for 2.2's )

Or you could just buy a dual XP2100 system for less with twice the performance. But then again common sense insn't as common as you might think.

Hey, do you guys read computer shopper? They did a dual of the procesors, and Intel won! The ONLY thing that the AMD had over the intel was that office productivity was better by one point!

Computer Shopper, guys! Read it!

Well lets see results from the .13 micron AMD CPU's on a REAL mobo made from ASUS, MSI , ABIT, or Epox instead of the Tyan. Results will be far different.

computer shopper, wow, a really reliable source. I could build a 2100+ system that would beat a similarily costed p4 system by 10% in every benchmark you could find. just send me the money

Similarly costed??

Forget about that! I do admit, Intel costs more. The reason AMD is so cheap, is because it is made by small hungry children in Afganistan, hand etched

Amd is a "better buy." cheap, and comarible preformance (Intel is still ahead!!).

LOL! the die on a p4 is so big you'd think IT was hand etched!

if you really think amd gets their cpu's made in afghanistan, you are really really dumb

amd is cheaper, and right now about the same performance. when they introduce .13u they are likely to be ahead a bit.
