My cooling system right now is a custom made maze2-style waterblock, Rio 200 gph pump, resivour, and a basic radiator. The radiator is about 10 x 5 with a single pass for the water, and is very thin (big enough, as i said, for a single pass). It looks kinda like this, except there aren't any copper parts on it. Right now I run it with 2 120 mm NMB fans 7 volted and, i idle at around 30 C. Under load I can hit about 34. My question is; would I see a benefit from upgrading to a better radiator / what is a better radiator? I want to know just because I'm planning on cutting up a new case to fit this in nicely, and if i have to upgrade in two or three years I don't want o have to cut the case even more for a new radiator.
Thanks! -BlinderBomber |

I would DEFINANTLY go for a better radiator.
A standard heatercore will surely outperform that radiator with a large margin. These can be had very cheaply if you find the right place.... upgrade upgrade upgrade ! ![]() Im going for a Volvo240 heatercore as they are easy as hell to find around here in sweden ( volvo240 is probably THE most common car here) I think I´ll be able to modify it to fit into my case aswell ... Just for the record im now using/testing a lowpressuredrop radiator from hayden which works okay to i guess...

I am using that exact same radiator in the picture. Copper tubes and everything. My water temp stays 4C over room temp no matter what. I have 2 120mm 83CFM Pananflows pushing air through it. It does plenty good for me.

Well if it doesn't have Cu tubbing, then what? Al?
If so I'd upgrade just to get all one metal type. |

yeah but nothing beats less fans
![]() i will build my system with only 2 fans in it (not counting p/s) one on the radiator and one in the top to get the hot air from the case out.

If I put one fan on the Radiator it still cools within 6C and is quite. If I run the computer at stock setting them I just need a slow 120mm that is near silent. But I am overcloking at 2.05Vcore so I need a little more fan power.
Quite is good. |

So say I were to upgrade. What would you guys recommend I do? Radiators are damn cheap on ebay and I could just pick up a car heatercore from there and cut it down to what i need, or should i go for something premade (bigmomma, etc)?

I would go with a heater core. They are not that much worst than the expensive ones and you can semi customize them. I just bought a 1988 Ford Escort one to see what it looks like($25US). Not to bad, but it is going back. To bulky. I will make due with the tranny coolers.

The Volvo rad is pretty darn good, if a bit bulky.
It won´t fit most cases unless you put them in the side, since they are 197 mm wide. Dannzig, vad gör du nu för tiden? Jag hörde att du hade slutat på Microhard. |

34C load is nothing to be worried about. I honestly wouldn't be bothered, unless you are trying to overclock and get every mhz out of it possible.
As far as future proofing goes, just wait until you need a new rad, not buy one when you want one. |

yes that is a crap radiator u got but if u are happy with your current noise level and stability is fine and dont want to overclock any more you dont need to get anything new (that should be obvious if it aint broke dont fix it). a heatercore would be fine or if u want something premade (you suggesed a big momma) consider a monolith or leviathan from liquidcool (cheaper than big mommas usually bit exactly the same heatercore)

do you know what the differance is between ambient temp and water temp?
if it is 1 or 2C, it doesn't matter, don't bother with another rad |
