I've been thinking the same thing (about the heatpipe) for a while. The present MCX series really aren't competetive anymore with the likes of Thermalright's and Cooler Master's giant heatpipe coolers.

Thats an interesting end tank design on the radiator. Any specific reason why they are sloped inward?
To help channel the flow more smoothly? |

Congrats to Cathar, BillA and swiftech for moving enthusiast watercooling the way it needs to go.
Quiet yet with performance far beyond any aircool solution. And thanks go to BillA/swiftech for listening. |

Take a look at Cathar's Little Arse radiator, especially the dual fan one, and note the resemblance to this NEW Apex radiator. ![]() The whole concept of "self purging plenum chambers design" is already there. |

It even has fan adaptors and 7/16'' ID (5/8'' OD) tubing...

That kit looks excellent! I'm most impressed by how much radiator they're offering for the money. However, those fans will NEVER satisfy the silent-PC crowd.

I would say that Swiftech here have erred on the side of excellent radiator cooling performance in a way that is competitive with other kits, rather than true low-noise, which unfortunately does cost in terms of performance. The silent-PC crowd fan powers go about as high as 50cfm, with the 1350rpm Yate-Loon's providing around 45cfm @ 22dBA. Really need a tri-fan radiator to be upper-end radiator-performance competitive when using true low-noise fans. When done really properly, could get a tri-fan yate-loon driven radiator down to around 0.020C/W, but that's not going to be something that can be easily placed in or on most cases. |

i noticed that the radiator is now significantly slimmer. it's now right between a Black Ice Pro and a Black Ice Extreme. that's a welcomed change. i've always felt that the BIX was a bit thick. does HWLabs manufacture the radiators for Swiftech? if so, when will they release their radiators? i'm still waiting to see their Single Pass radiator. I think if that one performs as well as the PA160, that belongs in the APEX kit.

Wow... that radiator leaves a lot of modding ideas in my head... a 120mm fan mounted in the PCI bay cooling off all the PCI cards and exhausting it through the radiator? Naw... never!

Looking at the pictures, it looks like the radbox and dual radiator block all the expansion slots, including VGA connectors. Is that right?

It does not - just the camera angle shows that. If you'll note, the radbox isn't quite as the right-most edge of the PCI slot holes.

Could be a problem with dual display vid cards though I guess. Or people like me stuck with DVI to VGA adapters on newer cards with DVI out only...

One bit of warning for you folks that have the Swiftech Storm block. This may be common or perhaps it only happened to me. However, I'm guessing that this is a common thing with threading a plastic barb into a hard material. When I received my Storm block I threaded the 1/2" barbs in and then took them back off and noticed some very fine plastic string which I can figure was a little bit of the plastic barb threads that came off when threading it into the delrin top. These fine strings if not removed will clog the tiny jets in the Storm's mid-plate. The string are easily removed with a pair of tweezers and a can of compressed air. Just check your Storm block for the stringy stuff before you put your WCing system all together.

looks like a good review, i see joe took the disclaimer onboard. I love the fact it beats out the asetek whilst using a dual rad vs a triple, fantastic stuff.
