Default MCW5000 corrosion?

So, the MCW 5000's are alu/cu mix?

How badly do these corrode?

Depends greenman, as you already know. What mixture of coolant used, how well or not the top is anodized etc. It will happen, just a matter of time. If I were to run that block, I would use at least a 25% ratio of AF to water, perhaps slightly more.

That I know.

The tops are Type 2 anodized.

my question is more towards the quality of anodization

Type 2 is still fairly vulnerable, as seen by many corrosion issues of such anodization type. Any tiny spot that is not covered or gets nicked will be a problem.

I had one in use for a few years.. when I took it off, all the anodizing was gone from the inside and it was pretty bad. at the time I had been running Royal purple Ice and water. The block probably would have been fine if I had used a stronger mix, or AF instead like I do now, and changed the coolant/checked PH at some interval. Now adays I change hardware so often that the coolant is never in use for more than a few months rather than years. I have another 5000 block and will probably use it in my next pc.

From what I've heard the quality on the anodizing of the MCW5000 was quite good, but, inevitably, it will fail anyhow.

Dude for $75 run it til it dies Seriously, just use 30% anti-freeze and call it a day.

I've been using the MCW-5000 blocks (on Xeon's incidentally) for two years now with no sign of trouble. Using anti-freeze in a 20% concentration. Just use some good quality anti-freeze designed for Aluminium engines and you'll be fine.

They are good blocks, and like everyone said.. with the propper mix it should last a good long time, and if it does go south, just make your own top and continue on. only reason I didn't put mine back was because I had a DD RBX to try.
