Would this work?

I have this small fridge from Walmart and wondered if the compressor is powerful enough to even make a difference in a water chiller setup?

Anyone try using this fridge yet? It's really cheap and a good place to start learning about water chilling.

Fridge compressors are rarely 100% duty cycle. If you try to turn one into a water chiller you'll just burn out the compressor.

So what's the smallest or type compressor that would be at a minimum to make a water chiller work? I'm assuming maybe those small chest freezers?

Freezer compressors won't work. You need to buy a compressor rated for 100% duty cycle.

So from what I've seen and read so far, that would have to be an A/C compressor. The only thing I have against that is that the system is really big, or maybe I'm wrong and you can use really small units.

Better of asking in EOF forum, extreme systems, and others more involved in phase change cooling.

most people going into this area shouldn't worry about size of compressor. Compressors size is important but it is related to what idle and load temps it can produce which is the main factor people look at when chossing compressor. So what temps do you want to see? Smallest setup is 1/3 midtower but I think optimal size is AC unit.

You can make it work but the temps will be around 0c-5C at idle and positive under load.
Better off puttting that amount of work and energy into a better AC unit or bigger setup for another $100.
