SnapServer 4100 drive swapping
I would like to know if it possible to swap drives (4 drives in one RAID 5 ) from one SnapServer to another.
I have a 4100 that has died. I am about 99% sure it is a motherboard issue. I am considering buying a second hand snapserver 4100 and I want to know if I will be able to get access to the data that is on the RAID from the old 4100 if I install the disks in a working snap. Thanks for a very informative site. This is by far the best resource for snapserver information I have found. |

Re: SnapServer 4100 drive swapping
General FAQ Applies to all SnapOS Units 1x00, 2x00, 4000, 4100
Before doing any upgrades or drive replacement it is recommended that you backup ALL DATA from the Snap that you do not want to loose. There is always a risk of loosing data if something goes wrong. This applies to all RAID 1 & 5 configurations. If you are running RAID 0 you either do not care for your data or you have a separate backup program. Snap OS hard drives can not be read by anything except another snap. If you install the HD in a pc you will damage the drive if you mount it, kiss your data good bye. And then it needs to be the same SnapOS if a flash ram unit. 1000, 2000, 4x00. http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/sho...d.php?t=13820# posted by blue68f100 i think it could work but not for sure |

Re: SnapServer 4100 drive swapping
You can move the hd's from one system to another with out issues if the systems are on the same release. (make sure you do not mix the order up). You can in most case move up in OS release, but gong backwards can cause problems.
