Can I upgrade? Snap 2000
Hi, I have a Snap Server 2000 with BIOS version 2.0.252. I'm trying to upgrade this to at least 3.4.805 (preferably 4.0.860), but snap assist is rejecting every .sup file I've managed to find. "Upgrade not supported on server."
Is my version of the OS just so old that it can't be upgraded anymore? |

Re: Can I upgrade? Snap 2000
You should be able to upgrade. I have a 2000 with the same bios level and I have updated it to 4.0.830.
It will have to be in steps. Look to see if you can find full copy of 3.1.2 then go to 3.4.805 then go to 4.0.860 Hope this helps |

Re: Can I upgrade? Snap 2000
Coming from V2 you will need to use assist and use a old OS like win98 or win2k. This has come up before, for some reason the older OS's do not play well with XP and newer.

Re: Can I upgrade? Snap 2000
Thanks, now I just need to find a copy of win98...
Would this also be why the hardware version (aka platform bytes?) gets reported as 255.255.255? And if not, is there anyway to fix that? |

Re: Can I upgrade? Snap 2000
If you know what the platformbyte is suppose to be it can be changed. Normally when it's off the server type is off too.
To change you will need to unlock the bios make changes, then lock it back. There is another resent thread on a 4000 that is having problem with that too.

Re: Can I upgrade? Snap 2000
Woo! Setting the platform bytes allowed me to upgrade. :-D
The commands to change the platform bytes were a bit different for my version of the OS. The command is: bios set bytes Platform Major Minor ie: bios set bytes 2 0 0 no unlocking/locking required (or possible) I should also mention I was able to upgrade using XP and compatibility settings. :-) Thanks! |
