I don't think it will happen with the TBred because we haven't heard about it yet. For quite a few months before release we knew about the IHS on the tuallie and P4, and we already know about the hammer, yet we haven't heard a thing about the TBred at this stage

While using an IHS to protect the core and improve heat transfer to a larger HSF is a good idea, I think this will be the first step with AMD multiplier-locking processors. Many people are happy with joining the L1's, even if the XP's need more work filling the holes, but I don't think that many people (apart from the hardcore enthusiasts) will go to the length of removing the IHS for fear of damaging the processor.
Then again, with chipsets such as the KT266a and KT333 that can run a high FSB with dividers to keep the PCI and AGP interfaces in spec, this may not be much of an issue. |

![]() I guess that all depends on how much of a business threat AMD views the possibility of resellers passing lesser chips off as faster ones and impacting their profit margin. Wasn't that (remarking) the reason Intel cited when they started locking P2's?? It's a long time ago, and the ol' grey matters not what it was. ![]() |

Don't expect too much from the hammer...
It's not TRUE .13 micron die. It's a mix of .18 and .13 micron die, that's why the power consumption isn't that much less than the current XP processors. So don't expect too much of a leap with the hammer.

what the hell are you talking about? The palomino is a mix of .13 and .18µ. Thoroughbred cpu's will be full on .13µ fab. Depending on which hammer chip you are talking about, I believe clawhammer will be starting on a .10µ process and then the hammer line should shrink more. --Matt |

mk is right. axia tbirds onwards are a mix of .13 and .18, but all the hammers are fully .18
