Default Overclock the TI-83 Silver Edition

I am thinking about overclocking my TI-83+ Silver Edition. Why? Well I'm a shutin who doesn't get out much, and this is the kind of things that geeky shutins do. I have read some articles on it, primarily, http://leaven.com/ti/ti83.htm . It said i can quadruple my CPU speed by swapping out the c7 capacitor. I have a couple questions about it. Since i have the silver edition, with a processor that is already faster than the ti-83+(the model used in the article) would I see the same 4-times increase in speed? Also, the guy who wrote it said that you need a special 0.1pf NPO capacitor. He says a non-NPO cap wont work, but i think hes just trying to rip people off since he sells NPO caps for 2 bucks a pop...i may be wrong. would I be able to use a regular cap instead of a NPO cap? Also, i read an article at http://www.ticalc.org/archives/mail/.../msg00330.html that said you can replace the c6 capacitor and get a more responsive keyboard. What I'm wondering, are there any other capacitors i can swap out in order to speed things up?

I appreciate any help, and thank you guys in advance

Well, probably... considering capactiors store and release charge, if you put a smaller one in, it would oscillate more and speed things up. But if you do that, does a capacitor get its full charge before it discharges? Are there negative effects of that?

hmmm... try it?

Just give it a shot and document it. That'd be rad.

I mean you could just de-solder the new capacitor and put the old one, ya know? I don't that change the capacitor could majorly **** anything up.

True, shit does happen, and thats cool, i can take my shit. The problem is, when me failing my test because i couldnt cheat is a direct consequence of that shit, i cant take that. On the bright side, i am planning on maybee upgrading to a TI-89. After i get the 89, i will try swapping out vareouse caps and documenting on them. I just wish that TI had a datasheet or whitepaper or something, that would help a lot.

If anyone has any info on where I can find tech specs or whitepapers for the TI-83+ or TI-83+SE. I would really appreciate it. I did a search on google as well as TI's site, I couldn't find anything.

i checked the TI site, they have no datasheets for for their calculators. Outside of basic info, like how much RAM, and how fast the default processor is, i found nothing.

i thought i would call TI and ask for them to send me the specs for the calc, but i would need a reasonablew excuse. I cant just say i need it so i can overclock. Any ideas on what i can say for them to send me some specs?

You could just buy a TI-89 (what I have).

You NEED this sucker when doing college physics based on calculus.

I intend to buy a ti-89. but when i get it, i will have a ti-83SE that i wont be useing anymore. So i figure O/Cing it would be the best thing to do. But those damn TI people wont post any tech specs or white papers on it. Im gunna try calling them and if that doesnt work, ill ask my engineering teacher to bitch at them and say he needs it for curiculum.

in the article, it says I need a 0.1pF NPO capacitor. How can i convert this to µF? thanks.
