i remember seeing somewhere where someone tryed to supercool their entire system... down to like phase change temps all over... the system booted fine... and the processor worked well.... but other components were messing up... i believe the ram was one of them... there is a point where things can be too cold... the difference between ram and a cpu is that the cpu uses many watts of power... and ram doesn't... if u look at the specs of ddr most only draw milliAmps of current... which equates to very low wattage considering ddr is powered on significanly low voltage... with this little power usage and little heat output there isn't much to offset the cooling... cpu generates lots of heat and can stand being at -50... i know pelts don't go down that low... but i seriously don't think that ram will benefit much from it...
the other thing to consider is that we may not be the hardest of hardcore ppl but go look at the hard core... if it was such a benefit to actively cool their ram it'd have been done by now and would be very popular... japanese do pretty freaky stuff every once and a while... but when something is successful we do it too... and i haven't seen it anywhere... just my 2 cents... Go for it... it's ur ram, ur time, and ur money... Just tell us how it goes ![]() Cyph3r |

DDR ram man.
I've already picked up two pelts, a 65 watt and an 80 watt. Think I'll be using the 65 watt on the ram and the 80 watt on my GPU. The sad thing about the radeon 8500 is that the ram and core are different height, and they don't come with holes so I'll have a hard time trying to peltier cool it. |

just use AS epoxy.
or a cold plate that makes them even height.

Been buying some metal today. Decided on using aluminum for my DDR ram chilling. The cold plate + aluminum sheets are very light, now I'll have to find a light aluminum block. Think I'll be using this cheapo block thats made in China.
Insulation would be another big headache. Just volt modded my new KT266A board from Innovision. Must be the cheapest around, got it for US$80. And it looks to be performing pretty nice, tried up to 158 FSB and it works, just that my ram can't take it I think. Need more Dimm volt and then ram chill ![]() |

although pointless, it'd be easiest to make dimm blocks like #Rotor made and just run chilled water through them.

perhaps better ram would help too, 158 sounds like a ram limitation, perahps you could hit 200mhz FSB with some better ram. hell, my ram does 220mhz not chilled at all!
--Matt it just seems like you're wasting your time |

Hey! that's hilarious...
I threw something exactly like that together last november...didn't work like I was hoping though... I posted it on hardloop (that's what my fiance says it looks like), but I will repost the images here for you: ![]() ![]() I just ordered a 1.6A and P4S333, so I might pick up a 256 stick of kingmax 333 I have 2 sticks of micron 266 that ran up to 190 with that contraption @2.8V (auto mem settings/slow) It was fun to do though...and that's the whole point in doing it right? |

heh, thats some hard core ram stuff there. why not just spend the money on some better ram? (I know it's fun and all, but most ddr hits a fairly good speed

That was back before 333ddr was available and I was aiming to hit 200MHz FSB w/ my ole EPOX 8K7A...
Pelt cooled the ram w/ 72W and a 50 on the Northbridge...didn't make it though... Miss Man: give you some advice...you can't stick out past the edges of the ram unless you make sure you can still clear the 'tabs' in the socket I still say go for it... besides, I can stick faster ram in there an try pushing that too...like 333@400+ mebe eh? P.S. Brad...thanks for the Northwood vmod tip/info P.P.S before anyone asks me about my avatar, I DO use 4-way Itanium at work...so ![]() |

Well since I got the stuff already, might as well try right?
Side track a little, got my AGOGA 1600+ up to 2066 mhz, pelt cooled by dual 172s at 18v each. ![]() Waiting for the 24V PSU to come back to try for a higher voltage. |

heh, from 1400mhz to 2066, thats a damned good overclock. Did it end up being your cpu, fsb, or multiplier holding you back?

I think this about the max stable (Or close to stable) speed I can get it to run with the pelts at 18V. 2075 Mhz is good for a screenshot but thats about it. Think its probably my CPU getting maxed out, but I know my ram can only do 160+ FSB at slowest settings. Thats why I was thinking of a ram chiller, no doubt a better stick of ram would be better. Maybe a better stick and a ram chiller.
![]() I'll try to see if I can stretch it to 2100 to make it an even 50% overclock ![]() |

what about changing the multiplier higher? if you go to ocinside.de, you can find how to hard wire your multiplier to 13x, you will get 13 - 20.5 multipliers then

Heh, I've had a very tough time mounting the block in place + insulation and all. (The holes in this mobo are Small! My bolts very nearly couldn't pass through) Don't think I'll be cutting any bridges any time soon. Besides, my bridges have been coated with nail varnish, I would have to lap them to mod them.

Thats at 15C not underload or anything. Ambient's around 30C. The stable speed 2066 at 2.12v loads at 22C with water temps around 34C.

why not increase the voltage a little more?

Heh, that 2102 was at 2.2 V I think. With the Tbirds, 2.2V and above still made a diff. For the XP that I'm using, it does totally nothing but increase temps and make it more unstable.

Miss_Man, is that bonzi buddy i see? and RealONE player? May I recomend Commet courser?
![]() Nice overclock though. You could try lowering the FSB a little and raising the mult. That may improve stability a lill.

it's just that when at 2.2v there is so much heat that any increase in voltage will just increase the temps too much
