Default Dtek-customs radiators.

I am looking at the dtek-customs radiators. It will be used in a 1/2" system with an eheim1250, and depending on the reviews, probably a maze3. I was looking at the Cooler core combo or the Pro combo which would perform better?

They're the same radiator... Just one's painted black and has sexy silver painted--or they're just silver in color-- barbs.

Just the sides are painted. The center is naturally a dark color. I'm actually going to order one and have him paint the center part too. The radiator's about 2 inches deep, so having a tiny bit of paint on the outside edges of the fins shouldn't have any real impact on performance.

BTW, Webmasta, the barbs are chrome.

I just airbrushed my radiator. Its easy to do, and you can use any type of paint. whey buy that rad there for that much, when you can get it from autozone for 15 bucks, and then use a 99 cent thing of paint from hobby lobby?

Dtek puts a little paint on the outside, it only reaches in about 1/8 in so probably 85% of the rad's surface is unpainted.

i got this from HWlabs:
Quote:
"The paint is kept to a minimum cosmetic thickness enough to look good and
protect the fins from corrosion."
didnt say anything about performance being affected; i wouldnt think it does with just a thin coat.

willie's told me it's to maximise the heat transfer while keeping it looking good.

we all know that unpainted is the best anyway

You should be good then. Danny's been riding the guy at the shop that's supposed to start mass-producing the spir@ls for him. That's the main hold up now. When I asked a couple of days ago when I might be able to order one, he said he's hoping for about two weeks or so. So keep your fingers crossed.

Yeah, he's pretty annoyed with it. But since Fixxit can't mill them fast enough, Danny's footing the bill to get them mass produced and out there. If not for him, nobody would have them though. I'll be in line to buy his new block as soon as it becomes available. He's not going to put it up until he gets his patent application sent off and is getting them mass produced.

Danny is using the prototype right now. He tells me that his core temps are almost right at water temp. I tell ya, I'm drooling for one.

Hell no that is soo good. I thought it would perform that well just cause its so big. I guess I'll keep waiting. Any idea when they'll be available on the site? How long does that patent stuff take?

He's hoping to have it soon. The patent searches are expensive. I think he said a grand or two. So he may just try to do it himself. I'll try to give him a call sometime in the next couple of days for an update. As long as the application has been received, he has some legal standing if someone tries to steal the design.

I've actually got a picture of the new design, but I can't share it yet until he gives me the okay. Plus I've nowhere to load it from. I've also got a sweet picture of the the spir@l with green dyelite. Pretty sharp looking. That I could share if I had some webspace to drop it on.

if you paint your heater core like i did, the paint only gets in about 2-3mm, and it still looks good.
