Default how close to ambient are your water temps?

how close to ambient are your water temps?
im planning my wc setup currently but would really like to know the difference between the water temp and ambients for peoples current watercooling systems. im especially interested in ppl who are using athlons or high closed durons and a heatercore radiator.

XP1600+@1575mhz 150FSB 2.05Vcore 1988 Ford Escort Heater Core W/AC 1 120mm Panaflow 83CFM Fan turned down to 9.5Volts at about 50CFM. 170GPH pump. Water temp averages 3C above room temp. Note system is NOT in a case.

Every system is going to be different so you really can't go by what others have.

thanks jaydee thats just what i want... 3 degrees above ambient... hmm... alrighty.. i know every system will be diffferent but im really only looking at rads here... for which different flow rates and the type of waterblock will not affect the results much, as most rads are pretty consistent in the heat removal for all flow rates and the same heat wattage will be going into the water regardless of the waterblock.
im just trying to work out how big a rad i need as... which isnt easy because i dont know how much heat future cpu';s will put out... might just run 2 rads in parallel...

You definately don't want the type of rad I have, Senfu double fan (same as DD cube only bigger), Kills flow rate and sounds like a hoover with two 80mm fans.

err.. well yeah brad no wonder your getting ambient water temps
besically im getting a heatercore style rad on my watercooling system (planning to build it around may-june) but just cant decide whether to get a chevette kind for 1 120mm fan or something else that can fit 2 120mm fans.. kinda effects where i wil mount it - with the bigger one would mount on the top of the case, moving the psu somewhere else maybe to the front under the hard drive, with the smaller one i would move the hard drive and put the heatercore under the floppy. could also get two of the smaller rads and run them in parallel but i think thats kinda unneccesary and could get kinda expensive....

I had a heatercore with one 120mm fan on my old Athlon 700@1050 (about 80W). Water temperature was about 3C above ambient at full load.

With a bigger radiator (from a Mini) and a similar heat load, I get about 1C above ambient with a desk fan, and 7C with no fan.

i think i might be looking at the bigger heatercore or 2 chevettes in parallel... i plan to cool my gpu as well... hopefully with a 80w pelt if i can find a gpu block that i can put a pelt on and i find out how well an 80w pelt would work on a gf 3 ti 200... so a single chevette might not be good enough considering im planning on using a weak fan...

I know it's not as deeply sunk as yours BladeRunner, but I saw this one http://www.dynopower.freeserve.co.uk/overclocked/ and he also gets great results with geothermal.

I'm 9c over ambient (room ambient) full load. With no load, it gets to ambient over time. The internal case temp is a lot closer (within 3 to 4 degrees I think).

Running a black ice rad, K4.1 waterblock, 120mm overpriced fan (15$), a cpufx aluminum anodized pump, on a AXP 1800+ running stock speed until I decide on how I want to unlock the processor.

That thermal grease method of connecting the bridges makes me uncomfy. Overclocking

The thermal Grease unlock kit worked great for me i have unlocked about 10 so far and 9 of them worked the first time....the one that didnt was my first attempt..but i would say to go the thermal grease way if u screw up u can just clean it off no big deal

What do you guys use to measure water temps? I have a couple of extra Comp-Nurses and was wondering whether I could have the tip in the water to accurately measure temp?

My experiences with watercooling...

****! I typed part of my message and its gone cuz i clicked on a link. Oh wellz i'll start over
Otay i got the wierdest setup of all. Many ppl dont call it watercooling becuz of the portability and the stuff i used in my homebrew kit. It took me a while to set this up cuz i always asked ppl Qs and not rtfm'ed. hehe *cough*phaestus*cough*. Alrighty lets get to the explaination and the results.
I got a condensor NOT a radiator or heater core. It basically does the same thing. According to this mechanic friend who supplied me with it, it is a pull from a honda. It is used to cool the freon in the a/c system. So its basically the same thing. Pro/Site had an explaination of all radiators I think mine fits the one that is supposed to be the slowest of all and has the largest surface area.
The waterblock is nothing special. Maze 1c for free from DDen.
Tubing: 7 feet of silicone (shoulda gotten more).
Pump: Eheim 1250 317 gph from DDen.
Fan: LOUD ASS Comair-Rotron 200 cfm 55dba from Caseetc. Keep this in mind cuz its the reason why my watercooling isnt officially watercooling.
Now to the ghettoest part of it. My Resevoir. My resevoir wasnt really intended to be what it turned out to be. I was just using a jug to do the measurements. I used 1/2 gallon of water. My setup uses a little bit more than 1/4 gallon but its nice to have the extra. My mom got upset when she saw that I got some sort of colored chemical in the jug so she toldme to throw the jug away after i'm done. So i just kept it. And now, my pump is setup on top of 3 Phonebooks to get to the water, and the water is inside my Jug and the jug has a digital probe that is used for checking if ur beef is cooked hehe.

So lets restate all of this insanity. I have all of my system OUTSIDE my case. only two tubes for inlet and outlet going into my box. The outlet goes out to the Jug, Eheim 1250 pump sucks water from the jug to the radiator, radiator got a 55dba fan and then from there, the water goes straight into my 1700+ AXP.
All of this stuff makes ALOT of noise. My computer desk is right next to the Air Conditioning closet so I just stuffed everything in there and let the tubes out. I got pictures of this but i'm too lazay to put it up haha. here is a link of the stuff before being stuffed in the closet. You can see the closet door is right next to it http://mywebpages.comcast.net/nuba8/...Complete%20v1/

Results:
My AXP 1700+ stock speed is 1467 mhz. Its stock multiplier and FSB is 11x133. Right now, I am running it at 11x155. I could drop the multiplier down to 10x. BUT! my memory stinx. it doesnt work at 10x170. Which is basically the same speed. I even tried 10x180 and it POSTs but no windows. So i guess i need to get that Mushkin level 2 performance series.
Temperatures:
This is where I am not as impressed. This computer is in the basement. My Temps are usually 10 degrees celsius above Ambient. Its usually 29C ambient, 39C CPU and say 26 water temp in the resevoir. I just turned on my AC like 1 hr ago and it did wonders to my radiator. I expected the AC would cause alot of heat and warm it up not cool it down. After its been on for that long, my Temps are now, 27 Ambient, 23C water, 35C CPU. THATS A WHOPPING 4C! I am personally not a fan of getting 5 degrees better and paying 30 bux so no maze3. Thats why I am considering a peltier. My friend broke his peltier by installing it backwards. Just a funny thing i thought i should include in there hehe.

Conclusion:
If i knew ahead of time would I have done this? DEFINITELY. I think this has been a very interesting experience. heck, i knew about watercooling about 2 months ago. Maybe even less. After a bad experience with an Aquastealth II kit from becooling i decided to go hardcore and make my own kit.

Recommendations:
Well, I am no expert, so the only tip i can give is RTFM! haha. really it works take it from a hardcore n00b. If you want to get watercooling just set aside 100 dollars and some social engineering skills. I am gonna get that mushkin chip 20% off cuz i'm leet and i got the maze1c free. Yeah, the maze 1c is crappy but its free. the condensor is probably gonna be for 50 dollars but i got it for free. about the fans. I DO NOT recommend you get this comair rotron, instead get 4 panaflos and install them. I can hear my fan upstairs in my air conditioning vent. NOT COOL! Right now as i said, my fan is on the floor so its cooling only the bottom part of the rad. I will be making some sort of cardboard thingy to spread the air evenly. Its gonna take a while to setup tho.

Well i got sum serious essay to write on this and on two plays i read. Damn school. Got questions? Reply. Heck this is a really long post, i shoulda started my own thread. lol.

Update

DANG IT! I just heard some freaky noise from my box and i shut it off by pulling the power cord. I booted now and it seems that my ambient is 26C, water 24, CPU = 36C
I think thats good for the Oc'ing i'm at. 1.8 volts.
Oh forgot to mention, i will try to setup a legit res using this 12oz Du-Bro tank i bought from a local hobby shop. its not really local its 10 miles away. I got it for 4.19 bux taxes included. u should get one too. I wonder how much the 1/2in fittings would be...

My case ambient is 25.1c, my water is 23.3c and my ambient of the computer room is 22.2c. All temps were measured with a Fluke meter with a temp probe. What’s is amazing is the onboard sensor on the mobo is reporting the same case ambient as the Fluke. So I guess it would be safe to say that the sensor on this AK-31 is correct. Current CPU temp as being reported by the onboard sensor is 32c

Hello, this place seems interesting enough, i think ill post my 1st message here!

My water temps always stay below freezing, my 5 gallon res one morning was a big block of ice.

I use refrgerator parts to water chill my 5 gallon res.

Not sure how cold it gets, but now with anti-freeze (i know its bad), it wont freeze on me anymore.

My cpu temps are anywhere between -45c to -55c depending on the apartment temp.

1000gph pump, 156watt tec, Maze 2-1 block, and thats about it.

Gettin another 156 watter, what do you think the temps will get to? I'll have to get a different water block.
