Default Want to lower temps 2-3C??? Read on.

I have a 1250, maze3, PVC res, 1/2" hose throughout w/ 5/8" fittings on most stuff, and a bigass econoline HC. I had it all stuffed into my Inwin Q500 and was using a 24v 172mm comair for the rad. Temps were 33-34C idle. oh... Athlon 1333-C, not OC'd at the moment. My big PSU died, and I don't thouroughly trust this little 250watt backup.

A couple days ago, I put all this stuff into a cardboard box, along w/ a ~1.5 liter resevoir. I placed the box about 5 feet from my PC, in the corner under a desk, and used some 5/8" ID vinyl for that long reach, and then reduced it to 1/2" a couple of feet before the maze3 inside case. This of course destroyed my flow rates (I checked), but magically, my temps are 31-32C idle, and 35-36C max when running F@H.
*Note: I ditched the 172mm tornado and am now using two 120mm 24v Papst 4314's @ 12v. I've got them sucking air out of the top of this big box, and the radiator is inside the box, installed on a side wall of the box. It's now MUCH quieter, and I can remove the mobo tray w/ the maze3 still installed. All WC components can be removed from system w/o dismantling anything. There's a lot less clutter inside the case. Also, all of the heat from the rad is outside the case, and the air cooling it is totally ambient temp.
I'm going to get a P4 1.6A, so we'll see what it can do pretty soon.

piss off.

most folks have their stuff in their cases. It makes things cluttered and hard to work on. You can't just remove the pump to get to some other part whenever you damn well please, because coolant will go everywhere.
I mainly moved to get the noise farther away. the temps were a nice bonus....jackass.

I think thats a good idea especially if your case is near any EMI corrupable equipment.

yup. yeah, I had that great big HC and a 172mm comair occupying the lower front of my case. I had to move my HDs and my PSU around so things would fit. the pump was taking up my last two CDROM bays, and I got a DVD burner so I needed to free one of them up. My rheostats, etc, fill the last bay.
So, in the top part of my case, I had two HDs, a floppy, 2 CDROMs, a Platinum drive, and my rheos, and all the wires that went with them... and suspended in the middle of those wires was my resevoir/air trap. talk about cramped!

Guys keep it civil or take it somewhere else.

Occasionally you will find complete cooling setups from Lytron on ebay for $50-100. They include a big fan, radiator, pump, and wiring all in a professional case (with casters I believe). I am one of these days going to pick one up...

That's what we're trying to avoid.
