I got my 120v pump, but I need to use a relay so it turns on with the computer...
Anyone do this? Or have a link? And is there a way I can delay the relay, so the pump turns off a minute after the computer shuts off, to kep the cpu from getting hotter??? |

Here's the thing about that... You can get a relay from radio shack or even an automotive shop and wire it to your 12v psu line. But, im assuming you got a mag drive pump of some sort. These pumps arent designed to be turned on and turned off. It is much better on the pump if you just leave it on 24/7 like it would be in a fish pond setup. Like it was designed.

The waterblock and water inside it have more than enough cooling capacity to handle the residual heat as the system is turned off. No need to add more complexity to the system. For relays, check ebay for solid state relays, or look in the FS/FT forum. They are simpler and have no moving parts to worry about.
I also am of the "leave the pump running" opinion btw ![]() |

So, would turning the pump on and off every once in a while really hurt the pump that much? I am pretty much planning on leaving my pump off overnight, but probably on all day regardless of if the computer is on or not...
